Yes, I never play Don't Pull either, but mainly because the other two games are so awesome. I always figured that DeathSmiles has borrowed more than a little from Chariot/Midnight Wanderers. I never got the all clear on Chariot because it gets stupid difficult and my arm gets very sore. Midnight Wanderers on the other hand is not that hard.Elixir wrote:It's one of my favourites but I pretty much never play Don't Pull, I'm more into Midnight Wanderers and Chariot.
Hmm, I don't know of anywhere selling it apart from Fujita..
I need to know information about this cab.

I love don't pull and I fully agree that you'd need a 4-way stick to enjoy it better. For being in such a 3-in-1 package it's a great puzzler... hell, the whole set is great for being 3-in-1 stuff!

Re: I need to know information about this cab.
Well, the cab arrived. It needs a little work and it's obvious that the cab has been (poorly) repainted, but I'm happy with it and that's what matters. I noticed the stick (I'm pretty sure it's Sanwa) often sticks when pressing upwards, but I don't mind since I'll definitely replace it. Hey, does anyone know if there's any alternative panels for this type of cab? I'll check AkihabaraShop later.
They claimed it was 84kg but it most certainly was heavier than that, because I'm more than 84kg myself. It almost destroyed 2 people getting it inside.
I like how it has Japanese stickers inside the cab. Thank god I'm not illiterate in Japanese or else I would be completely lost (there's 3 stickers). I'd like to turn the sound down though, it's fairly loud and I'm not sure how to go about doing this. With my Supergun, it was just a matter of moving a knob. I'll post up some pictures later.

Re: I need to know information about this cab.
Some PCB's have volume knobs on them. Usually its a plastic pot that turns. Failing that, there is a master volume in most cabs inside the PCB area or behind the coin door.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
Re: I need to know information about this cab.
There's this universal credit thing, is this what you're talking about?

It says "service switch" in tiny Japanese, but I don't know how to enable free play. I didn't see any knobs for sounds, just a bunch of dip switches which I'm not sure if I should mess with.
Here's a pic of the board:

The board itself is actually very clean.
Oh, I'll take some pictures of the actual cab a little later on. I'd like to know how to rotate it as well..

Re: I need to know information about this cab.
Aha. It's similar to a Pony Mk3 inside then.
That service switch is a credit button. There is no cab test button hooked up (at least not in the Mk3), so you have to hope the PCB has a test button or wire one up yourself. I'm not sure if PB4 has freeplay or not, but if it does it'll be in the test menu.
Volume is also only on the PCB. There's normally a pot for this, but in some cases it's also only found in the test menu.

Re: I need to know information about this cab.
IIRC, the volume as well as credit/freestyle play settings are available from the service menu. Find the tiny black button on the game board, typically near the JAMMA edge connector. You need to hold it for 2 seconds or so.

Re: I need to know information about this cab.
There isn't one. There's supposed to be one where the hole is (right below the credit button), but it's been removed. Doesn't really matter since, as has been said, all PCBs have volume control built in to them.Elixir wrote:

There's a lever behind the service door, pull it to the left and you can then lift the screen surround and the control panel up. There's a stand that holds it in place. Then just unscrew the four bolts at each corner of the monitor frame and rotate counter-clockwise. The frame sits on ball bearings, so it can pretty much be rotated with a single finger.Elixir wrote:I'd like to know how to rotate it as well..
Re: I need to know information about this cab.
Thanks guys. I don't know why the knob was removed but it's not a big deal. I'm still a little unclear on rotating it but I'm probably not reading nem's post correctly.
Does anyone know if there's any 1p-only panels for this cab?

Re: I need to know information about this cab.
There seems to be, however, I'm sure they are as rare as hen's teeth. It would end up cheaper having a new panel fabricated.
Re: I need to know information about this cab.
Panel fabricated? What do you mean?
Here's some more pictures, it's a Taito F3 motherboard with Puzzle Bobble 4, but I don't see anywhere to change the sound or get into the test menu:

Re: I need to know information about this cab.
The F3 mobo is unique among PCBs in that there is no volume control on the board! Volume is adjusted in the PCB operator settings only. Do be careful, as there is a small potentiometer on the PCB which most newbies mistaken for volume, but is actually a voltage adjustment, and should not be touched (there is usually a sticker over it, telling you this in japanese).
See pic. I circled where the Test button is located (its a micro push button), and X'd out where not to touch the voltage adjustment pot.

Re: I need to know information about this cab.
So it's perfectly acceptable to turn it on without an F3 ROM running? Changing the volume would change volumes for all other roms as well, right?
And yeah, the sticker does say something like that, so I didn't touch anything.

Re: I need to know information about this cab.
I never tried, but I don't think it will boot without a rom cart plugged in.
Re: I need to know information about this cab.
Ah, I see. Tiny switch. I turned the sound down (sadly it won't go lower than the minimum, but it's not too loud now) and set freeplay. Now I need to figure out how to rotate it.. it's not a priority, but I'm not really looking forward to it either. I can't find anything online about this model's method of rotation.
Re: I need to know information about this cab.
Actually is there a site that caters to test switches? I have an old Wardner PCB and I can't find one anywhere.
Re: I need to know information about this cab.

Needs a bit of paint here and there, and I'd like to replace the buttons and stick. I have no idea what the buttons are, they just feel really weird.
I'd really like to know what kind of panels I can replace this with. Anyone?
Re: I need to know information about this cab.
jealous
i want one too!!
best bet for info on these is probably arcade otaku....few members there have pony's....but you will porbably end up just having to get the dimnesions and have a CP cut out of sheet metal and have an overlay printed for it....not sure if there is a stock 1player panel either
looks pretty nice....
and now how about some pics with it on
the screen dammit...show us the screen...

Re: I need to know information about this cab.
I've got a feeling the 1P panel shown on the AO wiki will never show up for sale - the whole front end of the cab is a different shape on the flyer, so it looks like a pre-production image. Your best bet is either to fabricate one and get an overlay printed, or wait and keep an eye out on auction sites the world over.
Those buttons are damn weird feeling too - I had a couple on one panel once. They're like a mix between a Japanese and American button - concave, light action, deep plunger.

Wardner sound is controlled via pot located far left hand side of the Jamma edge side next to the blue capacitors.
You can turn this pot without damaging the board unlike the F3 system as indicated in the posts above.
Re: I need to know information about this cab.
That's looking very nice, Elixir. Most JAMMA boards have a volume pot near the JAMMA connector. Dips for sound is highly unusual.

Re: I need to know information about this cab.
sweet cab... the smaller Jaleco Pony MKII 19" is my dream cab. I'd buy one if I could find one..
Re: I need to know information about this cab.
I see it. Is it counter clockwise to turn it down, and clockwise to turn it up? I'm so afraid of breaking something, or else I would consider trying to rotate the screen as well.pcb_revival wrote:Wardner sound is controlled via pot located far left hand side of the Jamma edge side next to the blue capacitors.
Re: I need to know information about this cab.
Aside from the usual attract sound on / off DIP, why would there be?Elixir wrote:So there's no dip switch settings for sound?Dave_K. wrote:http://www.solvalou.com/subpage/arcade_ ... r/dips.txt
Pots usually are set up so full clockwise is full volume, no resistance, same as any other volume knob (i.e. a pot with a fancy knob). It should turn easily, and if it doesn't try turning it the other way, also somewhat gently. At worst you'll just need an appropriate philips head screwdriver to fit in a lowered pot so you don't scratch up the plastic.
Re: I need to know information about this cab.
That panel looks original mint! Why would you ever want to replace it (especially with a non-original custom thing?)Elixir wrote:I'd really like to know what kind of panels I can replace this with. Anyone?
Re: I need to know information about this cab.
I don't plan on replacing it (just the stick/buttons), I'm just keeping my options open. Sorry for all the questions, but I'd much rather take it slowly and be careful with everything.
