Full doujin d/ls available to Westerners?

Post by oli_lar »

Apologies if there is a similar topic I've missed. Thought it would be a good idea to get a list going of paid for (Japanese) doujin shmups that have full versions available to download for us Westerners, either through Western hosting sites/shops or the maker's site etc. I will update this original post as they get suggested. I've seen some on one of the Western sites but forgot to bookmark it

If you would have to pay for them, that's technically illegal so don't ask.

Then you have the free doujins which you can find in the shootthecore database, along with any doujin demos.

Here's a free something: http://alcostg.amatukami.com

There's also this in addition to Shoot the Core:

edit: fine, link removed. I'll pm to whoever wants it.

I, too, would like to know of shops that sell free doujin games.

You can buy Acceleration of Suguri, Armed Seven,
Supercharged Robot Vulkaiser, and Witch-bot Meglilo from
www.direct2drive.com for $10 a game.

There are several doujin games you can purchase without having to move to Japan.

Namely, you have all the versions brought by Rockin' Android:

http://www.rockinandroid.com/

There you have the Suguri series, stuff from Platine Dispositif (Gundemonium, Hitogata Happa, Gundemonium Recollection), Flying Red Wine Barrel (same creator as Suguri) and QLIONE (QUALIA in the original, a surreal shooter that appeared to be like Geometry Wars but turned to be far weirder). You can pick boxed versions for really nice prices so I would advise to go for those but you have the online option too.

Then you have the awesome Cloudphobia, which is now costing 800 yen or so:

And you can also get exception through DLsite and Melonbooks Dojin Broadband Service. This same service gives you access to many other doujin games like 7 Servants Blade (Fate/Stay based), Scarlet Meister (inspired by Touhou), Toki No Akuma (a plataformer that uses a Gradius-like weapon system... yes) and others.

The only bad thing is that the retail version of exception also came with the OST in CD format with a couple of bonus songs but the music is still present in .ogg format inside the game.

There is also a free version of Exception, which is entirely multiplayer oriented: Exception Conflict. Good luck playing online though... But it supports LAN if I'm not wrong so that might be ages better.

Now, if you were looking for Touhou... well, better start looking in White-Canvas. They ship overseas and speak mildly decent english:

I'm sure there were a couple more that you could purchase online... But with the Melonbooks/White Canvas combo you usually have a bunch of stuff available.

He's asking for legal downloads, not warez. This is a perfectly valid topic.

I'm not linking them, but there have already been links posted to websites which have full download links of games you're meant to pay for. This thread was over before it began.

Chill out pal. Like Exarion says I wasn't on about the free doujins, or a place to illegally download games. I was after sites like Rockin Android and the artist's sites that accept paypal like the one for Cloudphobia. Rockin Android was the site I was talking about in my first post, thanks for that Observer. Very informative post you have there.

Didn't think popular download sites like d2d would offer doujin shmups, thanks for the tip Kong.

So just so I'm crystal clear before navigating this site using the Exception instructions

http://www.melonbooks.com/item/goods/id ... 0000129009

This game IS for direct download?

And on the tail of that, does anyone have experience with the full version of 7 servant's blade? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

7 Servant's Blade was really released in 2010? →2010年03月24日

Are you serious. I played the demo of this game in 2004. This is like the Duke Nukem Forever of doujin games.

Google translate revealed to me that there's an updated trial linked on that page.

http://www.melonbooks.com/contents/taik ... 129009.zip

I'm kinda disappointed by the changes. They took out the sword swing reflecting bullets mechanics and just went with an Eden's Aegis-esque super shot that you lock onto the enemy and guess how much damage it will take to kill it. If the super shot kills the enemy, their bullets cancel into items.

Oh well.

Not to mention that it takes sound effects directly from x.x's works.

More like they are using the same freebie sources? I think the music is usually shared by a lot of doujin games (TAM Music Factory, Cyber-Rainforce, Sentive and others) while the sound effects also come from a couple of well known sites. But I'm not sure here, maybe he uses a mix of original and freebie sound effects.

About 7 Servant's Blade, yup, it came out. Quite odd but let's not forget it took Siter Skain over 10 years to wrap up Project Reflection (aka: RefleX) and almost 6 years to release Alltynex2nd (development started in 2004/2005, it supposedly comes out this Comiket 78 along with Crimzon Clover and others so this year we might actually get some solid releases).
