Academic research shows that the thigh or knee is actually the most efficient and accurate part of the human body for controlling input, food for thought. But I'm not paying a fortune for specialized solutions like foot pedals since I'm perfectly happy already.
There are some folks whom lost the use of their hands and/or arms or weren't born with them and foot pedal based solutions would be the only logical solution anyways.

If foot pedals are anything like those on the pianos or other musical instruments, the amount of strain is going to be much higher compared to moving a finger. Besides, it would require one sitting straight with both feet on the ground at a certain angle, something I absolutely abhor.

I've learnt to use the mouse with both hands, and swap quite regularly. Tend to leave it on the left hand side of the keyboard and either use my left hand or cross arms and use the right.

It's the constant single position with tiny movements that messes up your wrists, so moving the whole thing around is a good thing. Having a low-sensitivity mouse is also good, since it requires more movement.

I used to play piano "competitively" and never had any problems (including sitting a specific way, which seems like it would be annoying in theory but isn't in practice), and piano pedals are obviously way way stiffer. But that irrelevant, of course the strain will be higher, the point is to switch to a different body part altogether that doesn't bother you.

It sounds crazy, but moving a finger laterally with very light force really is a problem for me. Whenever I'm using a touchpad or trackpoint or touchscreen, I switch fingers constantly. When using a mouse, no matter how light it is or how ergonomic it's supposed to be, I have to switch hands around just like cools.
