Seems like this upcoming Soldner-X 2 shmup will be priced quite reasonably on the USA region PSN site on debut day. Makes me wonder how it'll play with a dedicated PS3 Real Arcade Pro or PS3 Real Arcade Pro Special Addition stick setup for that proper arcade shmup feel. After watching the cool 720p FMV clip of this upcoming title, it looks awesome.

Has it been disclosed if this particular PSN shmup sequel will support 720p, 1080i & 1080p formats (running at 60fps arcade-spec framerate)?

The last one was 1080p/60fps so I'm guessing the sequel will be as well.

I've never seen 1080p sprites before. I bet its like playing a wall painting.

Well, there's always the PS3 game of Wipeout HD and Wipeout Fury HD with it's breathtaking 1080p mode running in 60fps...of course, that's a 3-D polygonal anti-grav racing game though. Seems like SCEE plans to release a true 3-D version of Wipeout HD/Fury variants for those lucky enough to take the expensive plunge into the 3-D based 240hz LCD or Plasma format HDTV sets.

LED TV's are great if you love playing games with input lag.

I have to say this looks really good to me, but I feel like I totally got burnt on Soldner-X 1.
I won't be buying unless there's a demo and a discount.

IGN review is up, gave it an 8.5. Not that they ever know what they're talking about.

The reviewer's primary reason for liking the game is because it has a life bar so you don't die in one hit, and the story mode is long and cutscene heavy. Obviously this is a review from a true shmup authority.

I read it and was annoyed. I hate life bars in shmups unless you only have one ship.

Come on now, having a life bar protects you from those pesky one-hit deaths, and will let the common man get farther into the game without much practice! 8.5! Greatest shooter since Ikaruga!

My buddy George Massu just bought a LED tv and we played SSFIV (with appropriate cables, etc) and it was pure sex. I've never seen such a clean pic on a tv in my live long life. We had lag-free play unto the wee hours of the morn.

Anyone get this yet? I avoided the first one, heard it was kinda meh.

In that regard, is the first one worth getting too?

really tempted to grab this but I need to hear some more opinions first. It sure LOOKS awesome from every trailer I've seen.

What's the verdict, people?

My download is going pretty damn slow...I was hoping to play this tonight, but that may not be the case...I'll definitely post up impressions once I do though!

It's a lot of fun, but way easier than the first. You no longer have to manually switch weapons to chain up, which I sort of liked from the first game. Bosses are neat but nothing great. I'd say it's easily worth the 12 bucks, go grab it!

Mine downloaded pretty quick. Pretty hefty 1.5 GB file though. Looks and plays better than the original, but as handsome_rakshas said, it's way easier. I made it to the end of stage 5 (of 7) on my first attempt.

From what I read, scoring well makes the rank go up, so in theory, the game should be harder if you are going for a high score. I guess I'll find out tomorrow, when I can get some playing time in.

OK, played one credit.
It's so far a joke difficulty-wise, I beat all 6 initial stages in the game in this first try. Now I have to go after the missing secret keys to unlock the last one.

The rank progression and scoring system looks cool. Chaining is based on ring collection and a timer that forces you to leave some rings on screen so as not to lose the chain. Lots of room for improvement, but it's incredible how the overall challenge is so unbelievably toned down.

I think they tried to address all the complaints they received about the first game, chief among those being non-shmup veterans going 'waaah, it's sooo hard'. Really though, nearly every other change is for the better. This game could be pretty sweet on the hardest difficulty setting.
