Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype: PS3
Re: Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype: PS3
I played the first game on PC and as James Rolfe would say about it is, "It's like wrapping a dog turd in tin foil" It might have been shiny, but I still felt it was crap. This second looks a bit better, like maybe they tossed sprinkles on it this time. We'll see.
Re: Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype: PS3
Yeah, and now it's a PS3 exclusive so it's also fucking over PC gamers, as per usual... No chance to redeem themselves there. Or maybe one can hope for a proper PC port once the PS3 version gets enough use so most bugs and stuff get fixed.Marurun wrote:I played the first game on PC and as James Rolfe would say about it is, "It's like wrapping a dog turd in tin foil" It might have been shiny, but I still felt it was crap. Would like to see a video of the game in action sooner or later.
For now, I'm still considering the OST. I really like Rafael Dyll's music and the sample I heard from the new soundtrack was quite good.

Re: Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype: PS3
Yeah, I'm sorely disappointed at the lack of a PC version.
PC people get one patch, PS3 gets all new stuff for the first game (plus moire fixes) and now PC players are given the shaft. Reeks of bullshit to me since I liked the first one and am not buying a system to play the sequel.

It's a symptom of these days. I also have the first and quite liked it.The Coop wrote:Yeah, I'm sorely disappointed at the lack of a PC version.

I already checked the forums for the game, it's a PS3 exclusive this time around. Kengou made an awesome post regarding developers trying to kill PC gaming.
Anyway, getting a bit too offtopic. Hoping to see the game in motion.

Merged with main topic for the game.
Re: Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype: PS3
Trailer actually does look decent, I'll be keeping an eye on this one.
Really sucks for those without a PS3 though (if the game turns out to be good, that is)

Re: Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype: PS3
I have sympathy for many concentrating on consoles... I don't like it, but I can understand why it happens; although steam represents a great way to reach players for this type of game...
I can only presume this all has something to do with its funding; an extension of the reason why the original probably never came to 360
[... As well as the fact that the original was more like a paid alpha...]
... Anyway the trailer does indeed look promising; it looks like it is getting more fun to play - which is great. There is still a very stilted look to the game - clumsy rather than stylish despite its technical proficiency; I would love to see stronger design principles across the levels; their structure and the enemies - tying it all together - similarly the bullets could do with a look at, their look/design appears a little clumsy when compared to say gradius or border down. I would also love for there to be a slightly darker/organic/grime/film/greased tone to their horror elements too - the alien like boss for example only looks halfway there.
Anyway, I certainly think they're making progress; I'd like to see what they could do with a 3rd game... Anyone remember that story I think valve floated about the possibility to fans buying into a game premise to help fund development? ... this is called prototype after all... final beta ... hah; I'm taking the piss a bit, but this could be a good thing.

There was a size limit on how large XBLA games could be, which Soldner-X far exceeded, so I'm guessing that might have had something to do with it.gray117 wrote:an extension of the reason why the original probably never came to 360

Hasn't the size limit been abandoned meanwhile? Anyway, I'd always stick with a native platform, so in this case the PS3 would be my choice for this game.MadScientist wrote: There was a size limit on how large XBLA games could be, which Soldner-X far exceeded, so I'm guessing that might have had something to do with it.

The size limit was increased to 2 GB late last year, so I'm assuming that's still in place. I believe the limit was 350 MB around the time of Soldner-X's PSN release and it was >700 MB.ex.machina wrote:Hasn't the size limit been abandoned meanwhile?

Re: Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype: PS3
Come on you sly PS3 owners.. Its about time us PS3 owners got a shmup worth shouting about. Those Cave XB360 pundits think they've got it made.. Well we got Soldner X2, so that means they ain't got shit.

Re: Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype: PS3
I've never quite understood how the japanese 360 ended up being the shmup port system this gen. Did Microsoft throw money at shmup producers in an attempt to snag a portion of the Japanese market? That's all I can figure. I'm not so much a fan of the bullet-hell or lolicon shmups so I haven't missed too much with the region locks.
All I've got for exclusive shmup action on my PS3 is Xevious Resurrection from Namco Museum Essentials. At least until Soldner-X 2 is released. Haven't picked up the area-type Everyday Shooter, but I probably will the day I get X 2.

Re: Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype: PS3
Sony decided arcade games were a bit old school and not what they were wanting on PSN. Soldner X and X2 are arcade style, but they are not ports, so I guess Sony will like that better since its obviously pushing the system a bit harder.

Maybe the 360 is easier to develop for, that's why so many Japanese developers choose the 360 over the PS3 in Japan. Or maybe Sony wouldn't allow them to go for a disc release. Hard to say, but at the end it doesn't matter when you own both systems.

Sony's devkits were priced out of Caves budget as well. They have since come down a lot.
