Iridion II has awesome music.
Hmm... thats a good question. I really don't care much for the view and I felt the "extra weapons" were fairly worthless (even in the higher difficulties). Also, the GBA has Steel Empire... which is a pretty damn cool game.
How 'bout this... its the best vertical shmup on the GBA.
Though I've never played Iridion 3D... I hear its garbage though...

I assure you that Iridion 3D isn't just garbage--its unmitigated garbage. And yes, I agree with your point about Steel Empire now that I really think about it, although I still enjoy Iridion II a little more overall.jp wrote:How 'bout this... its the best vertical shmup on the GBA.![]()

Trust me, its not even worth that. It's almost unplayable in my opinion, but I'm sure there are some who like it. I simply cannot recommend it to anyone.professor ganson wrote:Is Iridion 3D even a shmup? If it is, maybe I should pick it up. It sells for like $4 around here.

Re: Iridion II has awesome music.
You need to check out Iridion 3D; that's got the best music in the whole series, IMO, although I also like II's music. Regardless of whether or not it's garbage, it has the best music in the series, IMO-and there was a soundtrack released for it-not sure if there ever was for II, though.jp wrote:Yes... yes it does.

I like Iridion II quite a bit, but I personally like Gradius Galaxies better. Strangly enough, I think it being similar to other Gradius games is a good thing, not a bad thing. The level design is very cool IMO. I love the upside down valcanos, the falling glass shards, the homages to past Gradius games, etc.
oh well, there's always the GB b/w Gradius/Nemesis games (even Konami couldn't keep the names straight since they went back to Gradius for the Konami GB collections, in both Europe and Japan). IMO, Nemesis is still one of the best portable shooters out there. I do agree that Konami should have made another GBA Gradius (or one of their other shooters), though.circuitface wrote:I too love Gradius Galaxies. Too bad it's the only one on the system. They should have done at least 2.
Iridion II's music is awesome, how the hell Shin'en managed to pump out such gorgeous graphics and music at the same time is beyond me. Take notes, Konami!
Gradius Galaxies is just a tad better than I2, IMO, though...as for Steel Empire, I much prefer the Genesis version (even when I play GBA Steel Empire on my Game Boy Player).

Much prefer Gradius Galxies.
I played through Irridion 2 once and haven't touched it since. Not that it is a bad game, it just isn't that exciting for me. I feel that the angle takes a way a lot of the presicion and some of the sprites are a little too big. I can never figure out where the hitboxes for each sprite are. Gradius is genious. Speaking of hitboxes, notice no one mentioned R-Type 3 for GBA.

I've heard that the boss fights in the GBA port were "butchered". *shrugs*jp wrote:LoneSage wrote:Iridion II's music is awesome, how the hell Shin'en managed to pump out such gorgeous graphics and music at the same time is beyond me. Take notes, Konami!

Re: Iridion II has awesome music.
Good news Shin'en game music lovers!
Looks like Manfred has put the Iridion 3D and II arranged soundtrack back on the market with digital distribution. This is a great opportunity to snag this wonderful synth soundtrack if you missed it before. It's one of my favorite shoot 'em up albums personally, right up there with the R-Type Special.
Now why Shin'en chooses to post on some insignificant GameFAQs message board instead of here I'll never know. Like 3 people (myself included) still check the board.

Of course, that's just an opinion.

I believe all the tunes are done by Pink (not that one). Google for Dexter and Pink or Pink AHX if you want to find more songs by the guy.
Humans, think about what you have done

Pink is Manfred Linzner's pseudonym.

Re: Iridion II has awesome music.
I got Iridion II like six years ago for seven dollars and fifty cents at Toys R Us. The music customization on the title screen is quite cool, but damn you have to try really hard to make a shooting game as boring as Iridion, I didn't even play the genre much back then but hell the game was dull. Slow, lifebar, big hitbox, lame weapons, lamer enemies, ugh.
I heard it was a huge improvement over the original, I ought to emulate that shit just to see how bad it is.

Re: Iridion II has awesome music.
I actually enjoy the first game more for its more arcadey nature.
