No, I didn't start any of these arguments, the bulk of my first post was a legitimate response to the thread starter. I'm not here to pick on anyone, but the whole tate/yoko thing in the shooter community has always been annoying... And the go outside thing is just a lighthearted joke and not hostile in anyway, and yet for some reason people take "you could like go outside" as an insult. It's summertime, it's beautiful out, and it wouldn't be a bad idea at all really. I know that I go outside and relax my eyes after long staring contests with a CRT monitor displaying my favorite shmup (or any monitor and content, really). It's not an attack I promise

Thou shalt not Dumb
Wow, apparently I missed a whole bundle of threads revolving around someone potentially (but not intentionally) saying something rude.
For what it's worth, I'm not offended by the "outside" comment at all.
In other news: thanks for the concern about my moving.
I'm busy throwing stuff in boxes and mailing it off... it's about $80 a pop for decent size boxes via EMS (no way am I sending games or other valuables by any other class of mail), so it's not cheap... bleh. I'm looking forward to being home though... Mexican food, here I come!

In other news: thanks for the concern about my moving.

'Tate' and 'Yoko' AGAIN?!?!
I thought that was over at the "Dreamcast shooters" Tread. We are supposed to be talking about what we would do when we take a break from Shmups.
Anyway, I use the word 'Tate' and 'Yoko' in my post too. Actually I am refering to the game mode in the option menu, not the way I position my TV.
The words 'Tate' and 'Yoko' comes stright from the games' option menu. And I there is no better words to describ the game mode I am using besides the work actually being displayed in the game's option menu.
Sometimes people would extend the meaning of these word to describ how they position their TVs. But I don't think that is really such a bad thing.
Only the person who put "*meow*" after every every sentances he post does deserve this treatment. Do anybody knows who is that?

No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

The Cave games for PS1, Saturn and PS2: Donpachi, Dodonpachi, Dodonpachi Daioujou, ESPGaluda.
There are others (Psyvariars, Shikis, Psikyo stuff, Iky), but some might read "arcade" or "rotate" and I don't have my games with me at work so I can't verify which ones read "tate".

I never play one genre of games for a long time. I'm constantly alternating between shmup, fighter, bemani, puzzle and RPG games. Every once in a while I play an FPS or a racing game complemented by leaving the house daily.
Good luck with the move Cthulu, when I moved to Korea as a kid it was hell... and I didn't even have to pay for anything.

I've not seriously played a shooter for about a year, last one was probably Strikers1945II. I just dont have the patience anymore to sit down and learn a game for hours on end, i usually just end up watching a dvd or something instead, and it's alot less stressfull

Lately here are some non-shmups I've played:
Mercs
Shadow Force (A Technos beatemup game that came out several years AFTER the abysmal Double Dragon 3. Unlike DD3, SF was developed in house and features a ST by Kazu Yamane- whose style really comes through on the boss theme.)
Kollon (PSP Puzzler)
KOF 2002 & 2003 (KOF 2003 is merely good, KOF 2002 is actually better- leaving 2001 in the dust as well.)
Tekken 5
Thunder Blade (arcade version- kind of a 50/50 with shmup stages and boss battles)
I did take a hiatus from shmups over the 2-3 weeks before last week, but now have gotten back into Xexex, Battle Garrega, and Ketsui.

Glad to hear you like the Kirby game. I've got to get this!Dylan1CC wrote:Well, started playing Radiant again last night inbetween my Zelda kick and bought Kirby DS today. Great game, buy it now. It's a full fledged paltformer with big levels and beautiful hand drawn art similar to the backgrounds in Yoshi's Island.
It's awesome, it is the first killer app for the DS. Wait 'till you see Tiny City in stage 2, it has a wavy space age art theme! Again killer art, it ranges from hand drawn art to really trippy tech-y looking visuals. But the important thing is the gameplay with the stylus which makes you believe in Nintendo again for trying "weird" and exotic things.professor ganson wrote:Glad to hear you like the Kirby game. Anyways, no more OT, sorry folks.

I play pretty much every genre, as long as it's a quality game. Fun to mix it up every now and then. Speaking of which, I wouldn't mind playing through Final Fantasy 7, or Chrono Trigger again. If I take a break from shooters, I usually play fighters (and vice versa). Games like Street Fighter Zero 3 (Saturn), X-Men vs Street Fighter (Saturn), Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter (Saturn), Capcom Generation 5 (Saturn: Street Fighter 2 variations, including Turbo), Capcom vs SNK 2 (DC), Marvel vs Capcom 2 (DC), Street Fighter 3: Third Strike (DC), Last Blade 2 (DC), King of Fighters 98 / 2002...lot of Capcom / SNK games, I guess o_0. Enjoy a lot of the classics on NES / SNES, and other systems too. Could list a lot more, but won't. Probably listed too much as it is.

I started playing again two days ago and taking a break was just what I needed. I still get stuck at the same damn place in GigaWing Generations (grr), but I made progress in a few games and even managed to 1CC Imperishable Night.
Taking a little vacation from shmupping is just the thing if you're feeling burned out. I highly recommend it.
