Cool, thanks for the info guys.

I'm tempted to try out one of those intercoolers to see if it makes any difference, but eh, I think I'll just put up with it.

If anything the intercoolers just make more noise as there just additional fans that clip on the back of the 360, if were thinking of the same product.

You could get replacement fans like Tailsmoon Whisper Max: http://www.talismoon.com/cgi-bin/multip ... 360-TUNING

I had a set of them in my original launch console, you can switch the fans between 5v and 12v, 5v been the standard 360 fan speed.
Compared to the fans in my launch console they were more quite in 5v mode but the difference wasn't as good as I hoped for.

You 360 will give off a nice blue glow either way

Do NOT attach any aftermarket coolers to the 360 - they are invariably noisier than the stock cooling and don't actually do anything substantial in return... arguably, they could even shorten the console's life as you're either overstressing the exhaust fans or ruining the console's negative pressure system.

The only way to really improve the cooling is to make sure the console's intakes aren't blocked. Sitting the console horizontally, or using a stand that (passively) allows air to pass through it work great.

Back to the subject at hand, I find the noisiest component to the 360, assuming the DVD drive isn't in use, is actually the power brick. Newer consoles might have quieter bricks though, since the newer bricks don't supply as much wattage as the older ones.

Really? cant say i've ever heard much noise coming from mine... i've gotta put my ear next to it just to hear anything.
Thats with the power brick from my launch console that im using to power my NTSC-J jasper.

In my experience the DVD drive is the component that makes the most noise, followed by the fans inside the 360.

I had a PSU that made a whining noise. I assumed it was faulty and changed it at the shop I bought my first console. The replacement was silent.

So I'm thinking about getting this bundle here:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B003 ... VRQENFRJN5

It's from 2010, so can I be sure that I'll get a Jasper?

Also, does anyone know how much a 360 bundle like this weighs in kg? I've gotta use a courier to get it sent over, so it'd be nice to know how badly I'm getting raped in advance.

I'm 99.9% certain that's a Jasper.

that's certain enough for me.

So any ideas on the weight of one of these things?

According to the invoice, my Elite weighed 8kg when it was shipped to me. That was when you still got an HDMI lead and the audio adaptor in the package though, plus the power brick was the big 203w one. A new one probably weighs slightly less.

Ended up sticking with my NCSX order I already had... it gets too expensive to pay for the courier at that weight, and I think the 360's white looks better than the black...

more importantly though, it shipped! Along with Ketsui

Ketsui's out. I also made Galuda II and Futari green, indicating that they don't need a Japanese 360 in order to play.

I got a JP 360 back in March from NCS. Manufacture date of the system was Jan 2010. So there's a good chance that you will get newly manufactured systems from them, not old stock.

On the subject of cooling, I managed to find something out.

it turns out there ARE air intake vents under where your hard disk should be, and not blocking them *DOES* help.

I have a VERY old J-360, it doesn't have HDMI, and the brick for my First Generation US Elite fits in it, It runs at *ROOM TEMPERATURE* in large part, I believe, because I have not used a Hard disk with it, instead opting for a super fast 16gb flash drive. Otomedius loads too fast off of this flash drive, but I'll live.

Just something I noticed. Horizontal + No Hard disk = Good times for long times. I don't have Air Conditioning either.

Interesting... I only have a 20GB hard drive so moving over to a 16GB flash drive wouldn't be a huge loss in terms of storage capacity. And games actually have issues loading too fast? This is definitely something to consider.

And did you know your name means the cat 88?

Don't know where else to ask this without starting a pointless new thread:

Anybody here buying the PAL version of Red Dead Redemption on Friday? Anybody going to be able to tell me if it'll play on a Japanese 360? My PAL unit died three months ago and I've not bothered getting it fixed or replaced yet, and RDR is the only game on the horizon that I really want to play. Not about to buy yet another 360 for the sake of one release, though.

Yeah, Otomedius loads stupid fast. like, way faster than it did off of DVD (which is a definite improvement >_>) because Konami planned on that load time, you can't like, see the results screen because it loads so fast (off of flash). I did buy the FASTEST flash drive I could find though.

Yeah I'm aware. Asshat :-P

Forgive the noobish inquiry, but I'm planning to get a J-360 in a couple months and I was wondering what the consensus is on the best way to obtain one. I figure I'd either go with NCSX/Play-Asia or Amazon.jp (via a middleman), but I'm not sure what the most efficient and/or economical option would be.

Either HMV.co.jp or ask someone in Japan to order off amazon.jp (free shipping), or find one locally.

I let a friend do the math, but back when we got our J360s we just ordered them from Play-Asia. I think the price of any other option + shipping would run you about the same, assuming you're not using the slow boat. Big, heavy items like game consoles just aren't cheap to move around.

Not really J-NTSC related question, but for my Live! Friends to see my replays, do I have to record them from a Live! game, or will offline recordings show up as well? I've never bothered with adding people as I don't like getting interrupted while playing, but I'd really like to see if my pals are getting any better at Ketsui. Also, is it possible to share Omake! replays with your friends?

Sadly no, it depends entirely on the game itself. For example Shooting Love 200X, where if you get a high score and into the week's Top 10, it will ask you to upload the replay. A friend can view it by checking the weekly rankings, but after that week's up, it will disappear. There's no leaderboards or replay sharing of Omake at all.

Usually saving a replay that gets on the leaderboards isn't viewable either, it has to be either in the Top 10/20 All Time runs, or within the Top 20 of the week's runs.

To add to this, some games require you to upload the replay, otherwise your score won't be uploaded into the top 10/20.
