Looking for an old shmup

Post by adom4 »

Hi, i'm new here and i've been looking for an old shmup i used to like as a kid but unfortunately, i don't remeber the name.
It was a space shooter kind of like asteroids but more open ended and i remember that sometimes while in the stage a fast flying zigzaging UFO would come and if you could shoot it before it self destructs you would go to a bonus stage with a lot of weapons.
I don't really remember when it was released but i think it was somewhere in the late 1990's
I'm sorry for the not really informative details but that's what i remember from the game.

Did Space Bomber have anything like that in it?

Sounds like it could be Atari Games' Blasteroids arcade game. It featured the same-type of Asteroids gameplay and you could warp to the harder waves with a bonus awarded for doing so. Plus you could pick up power-ups as well. The final wave was a battle to the death with the apted named "Mukor" boss and lots of tiny UFOs shooting at you. You used a rotary knob spinner setup rather than a joystick to control (rotate) your fightercraft along with the thrust button.

It was on PC and it wasn't japanese as far as i remember and i think the music was pretty harcore and fast paced, almost like metal.
It's not exactly like asteroids, the levels are like a big map and unlike asteroids it does scroll.
Thanks for the help ^^.

Almost makes me think Thunder Force II, but you likely didn't play that on PC unless you were in Japan when it came out.
