Rediscovered Mars Matrix
Rediscovered Mars Matrix
Well, I'm away from my computer (have to use my parents', now) so now I can't really play DDP. So I wanna play something manic and remember the Mars Matrix for my Dreamcast I bought a little while back.
I don't know why I didn't play more of it when I bought it! It's hard as fuck but I'm enjoying it a whole lot. I've managed to get to the 3rd stage with 1 credit, but it's going to take a lot of work to get any good at this.
Just wanted to bring up the game and see if anyone has anything to say about it. It seems to be a favorite among some of the members here.

Yes, It's hard. Mars Matrix is a good Capcom shmup. Excellent graphics, good ship and boss designs

Re: Rediscovered Mars Matrix
In case you weren't aware, Capcom just published the thing; a company named Takumi (which also developed the Giga Wing games, also published by Capcom) is the real team behind it. The company's style is pretty distinctive in most of their games...no one knows how to all-in-all "overload" a shmup like they do, for better or worse, heh.Galderic wrote:Yes, It's hard. Takumi was not involved with 19XX. Takumi producted Mars Matrix and the Giga Wings by themselves. The vagrant wrote:id say capcom style is pretty distinctive in all capcom-takumi shmups too, check 19XX.BulletMagnet wrote:In case you weren't aware, Capcom just published the thing; a company named Takumi (which also developed the Giga Wing games, also published by Capcom) is the real team behind it. duh, what i was saying is that you get an assload of elements from 19XX, a capcom game, in takumi games, especially gigawing.Wanderer wrote:Takumi was not involved with 19XX. ok maybe not a nut.

Re: Rediscovered Mars Matrix
Sorry, I didn't mean to insult your shmups intelligence, but when you say "the Capcom style" is distinctive in all capcom-takumi shmups, are you referring to general gameplay mechanics or shmups elements? 19XX was Capcom’s the only modern shooter (that they developed) and I would hardly call it influential on Tukumi style. The vagrant wrote:duh, what i was saying is that you get an assload of elements from 19XX, a capcom game, in takumi games, especially gigawing.Wanderer wrote:Takumi was not involved with 19XX. basically the game that got me back into shmups, and a game i don't think i'll ever try to 1cc. i got to the beginning of stage 4 a few times on 1 cred but i can see no consistent way throughs ome of the most evil parts and it would take another hundred hours, considering i've already put about 50 into it! i'd rate it top 5 easily simply because it is so extreme and fun. need to get an adapter for my namco stick so i can play my dc shmups again. i've been spoilt by playing with a good stick and now the dc pad juwst p3ecks me off after about 10 mins play.

Same here.freddiebamboo wrote:The shield system is excellent in it, very tactical and takes a lot of practice to use properly.
Only thing I don't like about it is my crapness at it.
The thing I always felt made this title kinda different is that it just feels like you have so many ways to attack and it really rewards aggresive play. A lot of other manics always made me feel like I was playing more defensively, but Mars Matrix usually has me feeling like I'm tearing some stuff up even when I'm loosing.
