After watching the film trailer of the upcoming remake of Wes Craven's A Nightmare On Elm Street, the remake made it's official debut on the big screen April 30th, 2010. Checked it out and it seems to take on a darker twist of events compared to the 1984 released original. The earlier '80s old-school NoES film sequels were quite imaginative in their usage of special EFX to move/progress the story along and none of this crappy modern-day CG EFX either that this new remake heavily relies on.

The viewer is presented with some cheap scares in this NoES remake...you know you've been had when they occur. The eventual ending leaves the audience wondering if a sequel is in the works or not. Best to stick with the tried and true old school NoES films as they are better IMO plot-wise.

As usual, this new film is distributed by New Line Cinema studios, the very same folks whom distributed the older NoES films back in the 1980s. You might recall that the TV series by the name of "Nightmares on Elm Street" was syndicated for American television back in the late 1980s along with "Friday the 13th: The Series" syndicated TV horror series. And there's the mid-1980s horror TV series of "Tales from the Darkside" with some cool special EFX shown in some certain episodes with some famous horror film directors at the helm.

The remake of Rob Zombie's Halloween was considered an ultra-violent remake of John Carpenter's classic 1978 horror film. It's been said that Rob Zombie didn't plan on doing a sequel but rather his Halloween remake be a standalone film project but he decided to do a sequel anyways which led to his 2009 released Halloween 2 flick.

What are your reaction/opinions upon watching this new NoES remake?

I haven't much anything good about it. But I think they got the right guy to play Freddie, so when it gets to the cheap theaters I'll see it.

Wack. Then again, I was never really a fan of the original. that they used elements from part 2 in the remake.
Besides, Freddy's Revenge was the best of the series. Best/scariest Krueger performance ever in that film.
Also, the original series was called Freddy's Nightmares. Tales from the Dark Side and Monsters were the best shit for horror anthology tv shows back in the day.

Yep, Michael Bay is listed as one of four producers associated with this new remake of NoES flick. Freddy's Nightmares is, indeed, the correct title for the anthology series...I recall watching it back in 1988 on the small screen.

I'll watch this remake, although one of the IGN guys said it was the worst film he'd seen in the last five years. I seldom agree with IGN on any reviews but that is quite a statement

It's best to formulate your own opinion after having seen it whether it was good or not -- this is pertaining to the NoES remake, of course.

The sequels were impressive with some cool special effects. The CG special EFX in the remake really can't compared to the better executed EFX of the older NoES films since they utilized animatronics, real-time puppetry, minature models, and laborious prostethic make-up effects. If you had a good special EFX team, some of those crazy and wild ideas and concepts could be possible to pull off as with the NoES film franchise. The Freddy Krueger mythos is definitely the personal creation of horror meister Wes Craven after all.

I actually liked the new Freddie I thought his acting and manipulation of voice where great. The rest of the film was intensely mediocre but the actual kill scene's were magic.

That "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" (circa 1982) nod is in reference to when Captain Kirk's old nemesis Khan face off together again this second Star Trek big budgeted film. To see the majestic NCC-1701A Starship with Capt. Kirk at the helm facing off against Khan in a dramatic battle is cool. Be sure to watch for the awesome "Genesis Project" CG rendered scene...it was considered state-of-the-art computer generated animation at the time along with Disney's CG rendered Tron flick in the same year. The ending is quite moving/touching and you'll have to watch the third Star Trek film titled "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" to see how it is all resolved.

It sucks big time that Paramount Pictures studio won't sell the Blu-Ray version of Star Trek: The Motion Picture seperately and forces you to buy the bundled Star Trek films Blu-Ray set to get it in the first place. Talk about marketing tactics when it comes to selling all the Star Trek films seperately on Blu-Ray format just doesn't sit well with Paramount Pictures head honchos. Of course, you'll notice that Star Trek II: TWoK and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home Blu-Ray versions are available for purchase seperately in the USA right now. It's all about $$$ these days.

I recall with fond memories of watching ST:TMP flick on the big screen back in 1979 and concurrently while the film was playing, McDonald's had a McKid's Meal promotional deal with the ST film tie-in with some cool ST toy premiums thrown in for good measure. In the 1980 edition of The Guinness Book of World Records, it lists that the ST:TMP movie as the most expensive Hollywood film to date with an over-bloated budget of $42 million USD. Originally, Paramount Pictures wanted to make a new ST TV series but it got canned, but the old-school ST fans wanted/demanded to see something anyways. And thus some Paramount Picture head-honchos got together and decided with all that $$$ already put into the cancelled ST TV series, why not make a movie version and the rest as they say, is history.

What I meant was (and this should have been evident to anyone who's a ST fan) Wrath of Khan was a sequel that completely outdid its predecessor in every way. Really, WoK is a much better film than the ST movie series deserved, much in the same way Freddy's Revenge is a much better film than Part 1 or any of the films that came after it. Certainly the most well written and well acted out of the entire NoES series, not to mention its unique use of Freddy Krueger in relation to his main victim (a male of all things).
