I've got a Cave interview sorted - help!
Re: I've got a Cave interview sorted - help!
I'm doing the interview now. Sadly my print deadline interfered and EG got in there first, but with a very different interview...

Re: I've got a Cave interview sorted - help!
Right - my interview questions (it's being translated I think, so had to be written questions) are at Cave HQ.
I couldn't ask everything, as I really had to focus for our audience, but still, I think we should all enjoy the answers.
Now the tough bit for us all - this is for a print magazine, which leaves the print presses very early June. Then a couple of days later, the magazine will be available as a downloadable PDF, and after that the story will go up online within a day or two. We've got a wait on our hands!
However, I'll be sure to post links here.
And if there's only a few of you wanting one - I can maybe post out a few copies of the print mag itself, so you can read the interview on real paper (m0nks, Rupert, Skykid, CHI, DEL, Durango76, Taylor etc - I can bring some copies to the arcade if you want 'em.)

Hey, wouldn't you mind to post the final text/list of questions? Or they have a clause that prevents you from doing that?
Would be interesting to check it. And hope it all goes well! Let's see what those crazy people are cooking in their HQ.

I'd love to, but to please my boss I'd best keep them to myself for now.Observer wrote:Hey, wouldn't you mind to post the final text/list of questions?
In general they were about the company's approach to reaching a broader audience, plans for iPhone, tech and design methods they use and so on...
Re: I've got a Cave interview sorted - help!
I should be able to get it myself if you tell me when to ask :)spadgy wrote:And if there's only a few of you wanting one - I can maybe post out a few copies of the print mag itself, so you can read the interview on real paper (m0nks, Rupert, Skykid, CHI, DEL, Durango76, Taylor etc - I can bring some copies to the arcade if you want 'em.)

Who's translating it? As someone who has had their hand in stuff with little understanding of mechanics up to spent way too much time in their life on them, I can say that a person in the former camp will have a fun time.

I don't know actually. I only ever know if it's face-to-face translated interviewing, which is always a surreal experience. I'm never sure who to make eye contact with when I ask the question. And should I nod along when the person speaking a language I don't understand is answering my question, or just stare blankly?
I've also got to admit GaijinPunch, that I'm a bit bewildered by your second sentence. I'm sure I should insert some joke about translation in here, but I'm not sure if that's exactly what you've already done, and I've missed out because I'm a dipshit!

Re: I've got a Cave interview sorted - help!
I'm always for a double-entendre i it will make someone squirm, but that was pretty straight up. The first interviews I did were pretty fucking hard b/c I wasn't really good at those games, and didn't know Cave mechanics like I do for the latter ones. Makes all the difference in the world if the questions are specific. I'm of the camp that they should be, but then again, I've read so many interviews that throw up all the same softballs. If I could do an interview, it'd probably be w/ the developers and not the designers, and would focus on hardware, limitations, and all that shit.

Good news is that on getting the questions back, it turned out to be Tsuneki Ikeda that answered them which is pretty bloody excellent.
It's horrid that I have to keep the interview to myself right now, but as soon as it gets published, you lot will be the first to know. I promise!

Re: I've got a Cave interview sorted - help!
I think it's fair to say he's a key creative driving force in Cave, and has been throughout the company's history.
Other's here will tell you far more, but in short he was a key programmer at Toaplan, survived the transition to Cave, and you can credit him with seminal work in terms of the bullet patterns and scoring systems that are surely Cave's most infamous specialty.
From being a programmer on Dodonpachi, to director on Espgaluda, Ikeda-san is a creative big cheese and essential to the studio's identity.
I think that's fair to say.

thats great that youve got him for the article, a designer / programmer will know allot more then a sales person about the design aspects of the games.

Ok, looking forward for the article!
I do hope you guys asked about releases on multiple platforms (in short: releases on things other than the 360!) because I've stumbled upon this:
http://www.jp.playstation.com/software/ ... 00001.html
DonPachi on PSN and PSP?
And if I sooner or later see CAVE on Steam it would be the cherry on top.

Yes, you can now d/l DonPachi off of the Japanese PSN site for a mere 600 yen. It's based off of the original PSX SPS release of Donpachi though.Observer wrote:Ok, looking forward for the article!

That's cool of you spadgy to get an interview with Ikeda-san. Should make for a very informative read regarding Cave's current affairs/plans indeed .

Re: I've got a Cave interview sorted - help!
so was this ever published?
Re: I've got a Cave interview sorted - help!
A few days away! The mag ran over deadline just a little!
Re: I've got a Cave interview sorted - help!
Not really bothered other than to hear what future titles Cave plan to bring out on which port other than XB360 (ill never own one under my financial circumstances), future plans to expand the brand name as a world leader for shumps gaming content. They might wanna try and explain how Seibu Kaihatsu made Raiden become such a successful shump in terms of worldwide awareness and popularity rather than skillful gaming content (though i have my theories for why Raiden was so successfully recognized like Streetfighter 2). Wouldn't mind seeing some Cave flash, or java gaming content even though im enjoying playing Red Plane 1 & 2 at the moment.

Ask them why they persist with region locking when it screws European gamers every time.

Looks like it's going to arrive in print for middle of next week, followed immediately by a downloadable PDF of the entire mag, followed by an online transcript of the interview a couple of days later.
