Fixeight Toaplan 1992
Fixeight Toaplan 1992
anybody knows how many loops Fixeight has? 8 would fit the name ... just played in the 4rd loop with continues of course. But that thing seems to be never have an end. Will the credits ever appear at the end?
Played Normal -> Hard -> Heavy- Professional

Re: Fixeight Toaplan 1992
I think it just loops forever, like Outzone.
Re: Fixeight Toaplan 1992
so you never see the credits?
if it loops forever when will the text change? There won't be xxx names for next modes!

Re: Fixeight Toaplan 1992
Really? My game ended after one loop ._.
Perhaps it's some sort of dipswitch option. I know there's one for 3-player combat.
EDIT: Also, can someone please explain how Toaplan came out with a game as crappy as this? I mean...Toaplan doesn't do that...right?

Another arcade shmup PCB that has unlimited looping is none other than Dooyong's R-Shark PCB. Played it at an local arcade and got to the fourth loop thinking that I would eventually see the ending staff credits but that wasn't the case with this particular shmup PCB.

What makes you post that this game is so crappy? I got addicted to this game for a while and managed to get to the 6th or 7th stage on one credit.
It would be cool to be able to play the original instead of the bootleg thats only available in Mame. The music on the bootleg leaves a lot to be desired.
Fixeight has great replayability because of the different characters you can choose to use. Its kind of like street fighter but in a shmup format.

I don't know, but Outzone feels better for some reason. I like all the playable characters and everything, but for some reason it reminds me of a bad Star Wars ripoff. Which I think is very *not* Toaplan.AFXisatwin wrote:What makes you post that this game is so crappy? I got addicted to this game for a while and managed to get to the 6th or 7th stage on one credit.
Also, whatever the enemies in Outzone were, they were awesome crazy robot people things, which are a lot better than those..."Gods", that appear in FixEight. I think the Outzone baddies also appear in Dogyuun!, correct me if I'm wrong.

Tried a little bit of Outzone, but that game handed me my ass on like the second level. Tough game for me.
Maybe I'll give it another try with that lagless mame. That is, if it was one of the games affected by it.

Re: Fixeight Toaplan 1992
what I like about Fixeight: walking forward is the best way to escape. I'm playing with Cull Horn at the moment, and his fixed shot rips everything apart in split seconds, this helps a lot to keep up the fast pace.
Having eight different and interesting characters to choose from is a great thing. Some of the enemy design is also great. Can't comment on the music, sadly. Biggest flaw are the jetbike sections.
All in all I'd definitely rate it higher than Outzone.

Star Wars with 100% more nihilism.esreveR wrote:I don't know, but Outzone feels better for some reason. I like all the playable characters and everything, but for some reason it reminds me of a bad Star Wars ripoff. Which I think is very *not* Toaplan.
I dunno, the art direction was already trending that way, storylines of later games with ex-Toaplan staffers had this sort of silliness to an extent. The whole "lol you won the game, you're fucked!!!1" thing was pretty popular in other arcade games of the time anyway (CAPTAIN WAFFLE)
Re: Fixeight Toaplan 1992
The arrange track was better than the actual tracks from the game. I'll take Teki Paki over Fixeight any day.lgb wrote:This. See the Fixeight OST.

Re: Fixeight Toaplan 1992
Cull-Horn is by far my favorite character as well. His main shot is the bees knees because you can attack facing away from the enemies. Also his close range weapon is so powerful it kills bosses in very little time.
Also I agree on your point about always moving forward. There is a stage later on where you essentially have to have a speed up in order to succeed. There are these robots that try to squeeze you into the center and if you don't have it your finished.
