Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
So yea the game came out and its fantastic.
Never played a Monster Hunter game before and now I can understand the appeal. Granted this is a more mainstream Monster Hunter game it is still very challenging in some areas. Not Demon Souls hard, but hard. The online on this game on the Wii is unmatched, best use of the Wii's capabilities to date.

Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
I'm still undecided. I bought a Wii for this game, but Capcom decided to group the PAL version to a dedicated European server, and the US version to an American server. As I live in NZ, which is nowhere near Europe yet still in a PAL region, I'd be forced into playing with laggy Europeans. I end up with better ping to the US, but simply because we're also PAL, we're also stuck.
And besides, I wouldn't want to put all that effort into building a character when I'm perfectly capable of ordering the US version, and I'd much rather work on a game where I can actually play with my friends (New Zealand isn't exactly bursting with Monster Hunters, you know). That's been a bit of a problem though, what with shipping from the states being fairly high. I'd also need the controller as I highly doubt this game is even remotely enjoyable with the Wiimote. If I can find the US bundle somewhere, I'll get it, otherwise I'll pass.
I know my situation is unique and unfortunate, but it wouldn't have been too much to ask of Capcom to create a dedicated Oceanic server. MMORPGs can do it, apparently Capcom can't.

I don't recall saying I had any intentions to play it with locals anyway. You must have glanced over this possibility while diving for the Submit button, yes?
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
You tossed around a lot of possibilities, buying the PAL version being one, finally settling on the US bundle option or nothing, but you are still undecided.
I just thought I'd offer something else to consider - that I live in New Zealand, but especially that I hate you.

And you believe your input would influence my decision? I'm sorry.
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
No, it was mostly just a stupid joke.
EDIT: You don't need to import the bundle. The classic controller will work on any machine.
I don't know if you'd be able to connect with players in the States even with the US version tho.

Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
On the contrary, importing the bundle would save quite a bit of money. I know it's definitely possible to play with people in the US providing the same region's copy is used. Apparently the netcode is really good.
I just put in an order for the US bundle. Came to $78.30 ($109.50 NZD) which is almost exactly the same price as the bundle sells for locally, but now I can play with people who actually want to play with me! I'm sure buying the US version and the controller locally would have ended up costing more.

Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
Woah, that's damn cheap. I ordered Demon's Souls because it wasn't out in PAL and it was way cheaper than it would've been if I just picked it off the shelf. US dollar is fffffffffffucked.

Lexir, you DO realize that this is an RPG?
Superpings from outer space don't matter.
I have a really really really shitty connection and can play just fine, even while talking with the other teammembers over skype.

Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
It does matter, because there's bad lag and intolerable lag. It sucks that I need to buy the American version just to play with people from there, and I'm not even going to mention that I've jumped through hoops to get my Japanese Wii reading American games, but... I'm still really looking forward to it.
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
Well I wish you good luck, its certainly worth it for this game.
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
What are you talking about? I've just been online via wireless and there was ZERO lag, beside being tossed by a Great Jaggi to another area I've never encountered any problems online. Not to mention the game does not use friendcodes.Elixir wrote:It does matter, because there's bad lag and intolerable lag. Online is fantastic. Smooth as butter, even when it gets very hectic, and believe me it does.
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
You were playing with people in the same country, right? The terrible ping I have to Europe (330 ping) is still going to be there, no matter how good the netcode is.sfried wrote:What are you talking about? Hey Elixir, where did you order your copy of MH3? The US retailer I have ordered from in the past (Toys n Joys) is terrrrrrrrible.

Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
I ordered from play-asia but it still hasn't shipped. I don't like using this site after a couple of incidents last year, but since I have a ton of shmups and RPGs to work on as it is, I'm in no hurry.
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
Configure your router to let your Wii accept all incoming traffic. That basically means you need to set a static IP.Elixir wrote:Don't know what that is.
Anyways, you live in the EU and you're trying to get the US version?
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
I'm pretty sure my router does that automatically with any new device.sfried wrote:Configure your router to let your Wii accept all incoming traffic. That basically means you need to set a static IP.Elixir wrote:Don't know what that is.

No, I live in NZ and I'm getting the US version to play with people with this version. If I buy it locally, I'm stuck with (Europeans and locals) a game that costs me the same amount, but rids me of playing with the people I'd like to play with.
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
A router automatically sets an IP address for any device that connects, yes. But if you have multiple devices that connect at different times, the router will likely assign a different IP address every time those devices try to connect. Sometimes many devices could try to connect at once and an IP conflict would occur, disrupting communication functions and causing said error. The best way to avoid that is to tell your Wii to connect to one and only one specific address, that way you can avoid IP conflicts.Elixir wrote:I'm pretty sure my router does that automatically with any new device.sfried wrote:Configure your router to let your Wii accept all incoming traffic. Your router could also be blocking certain ports via firewall, but I've connected my Wii via a standard un-port forwarded router and had no problems. In any case I've created a dedicated line for my Wii to connect.
Regardless of whether or not you choose the US or EU versions, there are several listings online. Also finding people to play with isn't that hard since no friendcodes are involved and anyone can jump in.
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
Ah, I see. My devices all have different IPs though.
Anyway bad news, Play-Asia send me an email saying that the item isn't available, cancelled my order and proceeded to eliminate it from my entire history. I knew I was doing a mistake by trusting Play-Asia again. Oh well. I'll probably skip on this title then, I'm not jumping through any more hoops just because Capcom won't allow people to choose between servers.

Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
What? You missing out on an entire experience simply because of nitpicking servers? You don't even need to go online to enjoy the game. The offline mode alone is pretty robust.Elixir wrote: Oh well. Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
Be that as it may, I don't want to play the game offline. It is not nearly as trivial as what you're making it out to be.
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
You must have hated the PSP versions.

Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
I did. But I bought it in advance and went through a project of getting 16bit games through my upscaler alongside my PS2, which gives me access to everything aside from arcade and Saturn games. Apart from that, I have no real use for the console now.
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
Well, make sure you get Sin and Punishment 2. Also find it hard to believe you're not interested in Muramasa/NMH2.
EDIT: Oh shit, you can buy Japanese Wii points? I HAVE to get Gynoug, Chelnov and Wonder Momo.
EDIT2: Oh, you have a Japanese Wii. Do you know if a PAL Wii can be modded to access the Japanese store? Somehow I doubt it.

Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
I was interested in NMH2 but I don't want to play it before playing through the first game for 360. The loading times are poor, but there's a patch coming out, so I'll wait for that before playing through. Muramasa's English version is terrible or else I would've had it by now:Drum wrote:Well, make sure you get Sin and Punishment 2. Also find it hard to believe you're not interested in Muramasa/NMH2.

Romanized original: "Aaa mou yoi. Dochira no mikata da Kongiku? Iidokoro dake wo shabere"
Official translation: "Enough! Just tell me where he is."
Full translation: "Ahh enough already! Whose side are you on, Kongiku? Just tell me where he went!"
They really butchered the English version. I really like the game though, and I even ordered this despite not completing the game yet.
I think it's possible to softmod a Wii to a different region's store, although I haven't done so myself.
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
Perfectly possible, but that's more like a full conversion of your PAL Wii to a Japanese unit.Drum wrote: EDIT2: Oh, you have a Japanese Wii. Do you know if a PAL Wii can be modded to access the Japanese store? Somehow I doubt it.
You'd need the homebrewchannel, a vulnerable IOS and anyregionchanger.
