Garegga I can see but more so than DOJ?

Me too. And I've been to the last boss on Garegga (low rank run). I think I've gotten past level two on Ibara only a handful of times.I've been to the end of the 4th level in DOJ, no chance in Ibara, though I haven't given it as much playtime.
Re: How do you like Ibara?
It's weird, but cool, much like Garegga. It plays more aggressively in some ways, I guess.
If the PS2 port wasn't so hard to look at, I'd be playing it all the time.

Re: How do you like Ibara?
Fun game but I'll never, ever try to get good at it in the "proper" way. The everything-and-we-mean-everything-you-do-determines-rank setup drives me nuts. It's like all the fun of the game is being leeched out of it for the sake of wanting to be more hardcore. Having to suicide periodically to keep your rank down also never seemed like a good setup either.
So, um, yeah. I'll play it once in a while and just credit feed it through. Like but not love.

Re: How do you like Ibara?
Love the pace of the game more than anything. I, like many ended up selling it but not because I wanted to. Price seems to have gone up a bit just like every other pcb (the yen?) but it's still the best deal compared to other cave pcbs
=/

Hook up a subwoofer and feel the destruction!
nothing more satisfying than bombing the hell out of everything.
although this game is farthest from the original cave style its a great game.
To me this game has the greatest soundtracks heard in any cave game.
If you like metal all other cave games sound kinda gay compared to ibara.
Tbh although I liked almost everything I tried with the Cave logo on it
the trance style doesn't do it for me.
Id rather hear something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfVqRwEioHU in the background
But thats personal...

You get lives every million points ffs so suiciding isnt even a big deal its just another factor to the game. Basically go play fucking touhou or something .

Really, it's not hard to have suicided six or seven times by mid third-stage. At least four or five. You could just play it clumsily and die that often to the same effect.clp wrote:+1captpain wrote:What a fucking noob.Cthulhu wrote:Fun game but I'll never, ever try to get good at it in the "proper" way. Ibara's seriously one of the greatest games around. I haven't played PS or MMP, so I can't comment on EOJ's ranking, but I tend to agree with him on some subjects pertaining to CAVE, so if PS and MMP really are that good, Ibara's a great place to start :) Yagawa is a fucking genius, and his genius is best appreciated, for me, with Ibara.
Re: How do you like Ibara?
I love the metal soundtrack in Ibara. One of the finest ever really. I also enjoy the techno-ish stuff like in Galuda but Ibaras soundtrack just creates this epic, badass feel which keeps me coming back even when the game laughs at me everytime I die (which is too often).

Re: How do you like Ibara?
Somehow I am not too fond of Battle Garegga, but I love Ibara enough to have consolized that one game into a dedicated supergun.
The price is definitely right (at least when I got mine), and with PCBs you can always re-sell without much of a loss as long as your window of ownership isn't long enough to span any large price fluctuations if it turns out you don't like it.

Re: How do you like Ibara?
Definitely go for the PCB over the PS2 version. I'm usually laid back about graphical details in console ports (you'll never see me in a battle over scanlines or graphical filters), but a couple details in PS2 Ibara drive me absolutely nuts.
Most notably, the rapidly spinning half-transparent round swirly bullets are just too hard to look at (level 2 boss has a pattern that spams them). Not in a "colors blend in" Battle Garrega way, I am fine with the regular bullet color after a small amount of adjustment. These particular ones give me physical eye strain and headaches, to the point I can't concentrate on the game anymore. Whoever came up with that effect is pure evil.

Re: How do you like Ibara?
I would say that Ibara is one of the better games I've played overall. I feel like I learn something new about it nearly every time I play. It has a feeling of depth that is hard to match. Plus, it looks amazing. I'd love to play MMP some day, and am still hoping for a port at some point.
Re: How do you like Ibara?
I play my ibara all the time and love it. I've also never played it properly- never died on purpose even one time. I have it set to "no continue", it gets very hard, and I try to get as many points as possible and get as far as I can. Am I missing out? Should I be crashing every once and awhile? I've got a mental block on trying it. Maybe if I could crash into that second boss it would be ok.
.....so anyways, even flailing-style the game is fun.
(only if you embrace the strange art style- pastel + invisible, plus a rather light image on a lot of monitors)

Re: How do you like Ibara?
This thread got me to finally download a superplay of Ibara and figure out how to actually play it. I have to say, I like it quite a bit more now. I can get to 2.5mil, but can't get past the stage 2 boss even (before I had made it to stage 3 with minimal points). What I don't like is that everything seems to affect rank, but I have no idea where my rank is at, or when it is best to suicide. I think it's just too hard for me so I'll probably go back to Battle Bakraid, but it's nice to finally be able to max out the medals now that I know bombing helps spawn them, especially on certain stationary objects.

Re: How do you like Ibara?
Ibara is good, although I consider Kuro to be one of the best Cave games out there. It just does so many things right...I really like the pacing and situations you have to fight through, the rank system is also better balanced than original. Knowing which weapons to use at the right time, proper bomb management...lots of strategy involved while going through the game to maximize score.
MMP was ok but I never really took to it. I'm a big fan of PS tho! I hated the game at first, but once you spend some time with it and really learn how to play it, it's a lot of fun. It also has amazing music.
