I really like EMS

Post by zlk »

I had an ibara poster shipped to my home from overseas. The sender decided to ship the poster in a tube and send via EMS. I have recieved posters from EMS before with no problem. Some genius at EMS decided to bend the tube in the center in TWO SEPARATE PLACES so that the tube was crushed and (as an added bonus) bent in two places. Now my poster is beat up to the point where it has many white streaks where the creases are.

I am not happy.

I believe you can put a claim on it. Isn't EMS insured?

The sender listed it as "printed material - poster sample - no commercial value." That still does not give ems the right to destroy it.

To be fair I doubt EMS would do that - they are probably the most responsible shippers out there. Especially if you got the poster from Japan - the Japanese would never do that.

And a shameless plug for the stuff I'm selling on eBay, if you're into that sort of thing.

Packages get damaged in shipping. Accidents happen. There's nothing you can do about it except go through their damage claims process. Employees are told to ship the items anyway if they get damaged so that the person receiving them knows they're actually damaged.

Hrm. Sorry to hear that, but having the item declared as being of no value is your fault. Never do that. EMS has free insurance for up to $200 (20,000 yen) on it - use it. Customs will almost never hit you for small value items anyway. If they do, you have to pay a buck or two. Big deal.

Also, there's no way to tell whether the item was damaged while it was in the Japanese postal system (unlikely, but possible) or after it moved over to the foreign postal system ("EMS" is not a company - it's a type of mail that is express mail in both Japan and the destation country). It's insured regardless of where the damage took place if you take advantage of that.

I didn't ask for the value to be declared as none, that is what the sender did on their own accord.

I am still not happy.

Ahh, I'm sorry... that sucks, I don't know why they'd do that. :x Unfortunately, I'm not sure what to say other than "don't buy from them again..."

I always thought so - when I sent stuff back from Japan I always did it from the Post Office.

Also, when I came back with a suitcase full of goodies I wasn't at all worried about it getting damaged until I got back to the UK - the Japanese respect for other people and their property seems pretty total.
