The Next Maryland, Virginia, DC area shmupmeet (March 6th)

Post by Kiken »

Alright guys, it's getting to be that time again. ESPGaluda II BL is dropping at the end of February so I figure the following weekend, March 6th, is a good date to get our shooting on.

Also, perhaps we ought to decide where we're going to eat in this thread, so we aren't milling about for half an hour trying to figure out where to go.

This will be held in Gaithersburg, for those who possibly haven't attended before. Official start time is 2pm and ends roughly 12 hours later... or when everyone gets tired and StarCreator falls asleep on our couch.

I now have 5 TVs: 2 HD sets (768p each) and 3 SD sets (all 20 inch screens, 2 are dedicated tate and one is dedicated yoko). I own most consoles including a SuperGun. I have a fair number of joysticks, but feel free to bring your own.

I think we kept playing for 2-3 hours after that happened really.

That's the easy part!

Muchi Muchi Pork ⇒ Barbeque
Darius ⇒ Seafood
Cave/Seibu/Raizing ⇒ Japanese
Euroshmups ⇒ Italian
Puyo Puyo ⇒ Sandwiches

If we stopped when he fell asleep on the couch we'd stop about one hour after eating.

There is a very small chance that I, the random shmups forum newb that happens to live in Central VA, might be going.
Would be fun, never have been to one of these meet up things.

Dude, this sounds great! And even better that someone mentioned Puyo Puyo... one of my favorite non-shmup games!

I'll see what I can do, this sounds exciting! I'll see if I can rope in a shmup-loving friend of mine, too.

I should be ok for this date.

BTW, this is a simultaneous meet with Dave K's out in San Jose.

Dunno if anyone is interested but I've got a V-V board I can bring. I'll bring Poooork as usual. Any interest in seeing Ibara with the Special Version? Nobody?

Actually, I'd like to try the arcade version of V-V. I've only played the MD port. Does the arcade board also support the Grind Stormer variant? As for Ibara Special... you play... we'll watch. ;)

Yeah, the board defaults to Gradius mode, you enter a code and it switches to Bomber mode. Bomber mode is like 10x easier let me tell you.

Yeah it'd be nice to play V-V with sound for once. I'm also hoping for some Ibara Kuro and maybe some more DDPII :D

I'll bring the Ibara Kuro. And of course DDP2, we can't really go without hearing "ENERGY!" in that excellent voice.

There's a possibility I'm going to sell my Pork PCB in the near future. If anyone is interested in it, throw me a line. I'm not 100% certain yet but I'm leaning that way right now.

I'm, uhh, kinda tempted to own MMP, but if Galuda 2 is any indication we'll have an XBLA port of it the year after I buy it. Keep me updated though.

Also, please feel free to wake me up when people are ready to leave. ^^;;

Outbox just means the person hasn't read it yet.

Make sure you have Crimzon Clover so I can prove to zakk that there is such a thing as a decent doujin shooter.

I'm probably just gonna hold on to Pork for now since I don't really have any reason to sell it yet.

Does that mean we're gonna play Xeno Fighters R Beta too? :D

Looks like Arrow won't be able to make it because of work, but another friend is coming with me instead so... yeah. See you guys tomorrow.

Unless BrightSuzaku logs in today and comes charging in at the last minute, I doubt she's coming. She hasn't been logged in on these forums or Xbox Live for quite some time.

I was thinking of bringing some puzzle game stuff too...

Yeah, whoops. Sorry I missed it. God, my life has been busy... Any plans for another shmupmeet? Man, I feel so... how do I describe it? In short, I feel like a jerk. ><;

Kiken is thinking June, around Father's Day-ish, but what everyone's plans are is going to influence that decision.

Well, the game drops right before the 4th of July, and I know that's normally a busy time for folks. So we can either hold it in mid June or push it back to the week after July 4th or so...

In regards to DeathSmiles, both StarCreator and I have all the DLC, so we're not missing anything from the US release. Plus we have DeathSmiles 2X coming out the end of this month. So I hand it over to you guys, which date is more preferable?

Yeah, I've got all of the DLC as well, so the only thing we'd be missing out on is English (not that we need yet another 360 around, anyway :P)

I'd vote for sooner rather than later. I won't be around for the 4th of July or for one of the last two weekends in June (not sure which one yet), but my Saturdays for either mid-June or post Independence Day are open right now.
