That's actually a really good point. Unfortunately, I usually get neither at my local Gamestops (like all 20 of them).

I don't think the government needs to be involved, but it's funny that you mention both of those companies, because just yesterday I was thinking to myself, "Man, what if the government owned Walmart and Gamestop..." We could draw SSI and give money back to the country by buying video games!

Gamecrazy would pull that sometimes. I was in there with a friend and got into an argument with the clerk about what "new" meant. My buddy was like "dude, they aren't going to understand your point. You should stop." He was right.

They are not like Gamestop at all and they even have Dreamcast, NES, Atari, etc. Still haven't found any Turbografix or Saturn games yet, but they will buy them if people trade them. They'll do imports too. There's a handful of locations in the Phoenix area, so if they have any where the rest of you live, please give them a try. The employees at the store I've visited several times are knowledgeable about retro gaming too.
Their prices are all over the place, but I really do appreciate having a chain that still supports retro gaming. I picked up a complete Herzog's Zweii for Genesis for $4.00 there. Also a complete Super Puzzle Fighter 2X for PS1 for $15.

The local Play N Trade is a real gaming store unlike Game stop/crazy.

I've had nothing but positive experiences with ours and I know a few of the staff by first name. My only real complaint is that ours does not order their used games from a home company, but rather draws from the toothless redneck Madden fan community I live in. I snagged a copy of Qix for GameBoy and also an Ascii PS1 joystick. Oh and a little console called the Vectrex with 8 games for 50 dollars. Gamestop has really no notion of providing a full spectrum of games which may be nice for a starry-eyed 15 year old caught up on the latest stuff but really doesn't work for me. Play N Trade here does both, it gets my vote.

So to support my former statements about Gamestop, I simply want good customer relations, knowledge, and respect for my outdated interests, from a company. I don't like being glared at by detestable little 16 year old goth/emo puke who hates his job the entire time. That usually gets misplaced on the customer.

I do realize that each gaming shop will be different but my local respect for Gamestop has fallen ever since they stopped selling used outdated games and rare PS1 games.

As a (cringe) "retrogamer" I prefer to have a wide selection of games from all different console generations. Gamestop used to do that, Gamecrazy doesn't. Play N Trade does.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

You got a Vectrex for $50?! I hate you.. I had one for awhile as a kid, and have yet to be able to get another one. Good on you.

I went to Gamestop yesterday and looked for a used Cube controller. I had to practically shove the guy away and tell him to take care of other customers so a line wouldn't build up. He probably was trying to sell me their service plan. (I understand they get a commission out of that, but sheesh. It's a fragging controller.)

When I get to the counter, there is a line of 3 people ahead of me. Which took like 15 minutes to get through. Because the poor guy had to peddle the service plan to every customer, and explain how it worked, and offer a pre-order and pre-order bonus, and offer a guide, and promote the game flavor of the week... not because he was slow.

They are required to do this, they get treated like crap, and there is no alternative. I am glad I don't buy there unless it's absolutely necessary.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.
