The E3 2010 Thread

Post by UnscathedFlyingObject »

It may be two weeks away, but things start leaking out around this time, and we can all dream about what we want to see. Here's by company what I'd like to see (work in progress.)

Capcom
Marvel vs Capcom 3: some actual gameplay.

Mega Man Universe: Capcom USA's recently trademarked name. Hopefully a game.

Devil May Cry 5: DMC is due for a big comeback after the last game's so-so performance. I'd like a reboot since certain aspects of DMC like the constant backtracking have always annoyed me. Rumors say it's being developed by Ninja Theory, makers of Heavenly Sword (nooooooooo!)

Resident Evil 6: I like the current formula, but they should try and make it feel fresh. How about a new setting and some new mechanics?

Revival of any of Capcom's forgotten franchises: Breath of Fire, God Hand, Okami (on a console,) Viewtiful Joe, Killer 7, PN03, Strider, Ghost and Ghouls, and so on and on.

Nintendo
Metroid Other M: It looks cool, but I've serious doubts about it playing well from what we know right now. Make me believe, Nintendo.

New Zelda: supposedly revolutionary. I actually don't need it to be revolutionary, just to do what it does very well in a new setting and hard difficulty

Platinum Games
Vanquish: looks kinda generic coming from them. I believe in these guys, tho because everything they've made has been good and creative so far.

Valhalla Games
Tomonobu Itagaki's new studio. He's was producer for Ninja Gaiden 1&2 and boobie fighters. He's been hyping up the press by promising a new awesome action series, so I hope he delivers.

Studio Santa Monica
They're supposedly working on a couple of games. I'll be happy if they at least give us a sneak peek.

I'm mostly excited for Valve, there should be a lot more Portal 2 info at E3. I'm crossing my fingers for Episode 3 as well, but realistically it's probably never gunna happen.

Castlevania Harmony of Despair

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.ph ... tcount=230

Unfortunately, it's DLC, which usually means cheap cash-in.

Edit: messed up the name :P.

Sweet! New Castlevania! I don't know if I want to ever play that multiplayer though.. Tired of listening to people complain about their lives while playing, keep it in character people!

God of War returns to the PSP

http://kotaku.com/5530564/god-of-war-returns-to-the-psp

The last one was good but not as good as any of the numbered games. It needed some extra polish imo because the frame rate was quite uneven and you had screen tearing by the buckets. This is supposedly a collaboration with Studio Santa Monica, but I doubt even them could get over the hardware hurdles.

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet
Looks like adventure style shooting, with design by the guy that did Patapon. Music by Dimu Borgir (spelling?). Game looks great, hope it gets noticed.

What a bunch of fucking fail. No comment. What a ripoff. They should have just made it DLC for GOW3.

What I'd like:

Namco
Razing Storm: Hopefully they've been quietly working on porting this in the meantime, to whip it out at E3 like an ace up their sleeve. We need another Guncon 3 game badly and this could be it. Maybe even a Guncon 3 Deluxe which is built more like the original Guncon. Throw in all the Time Crisis games for one hell of a deal.

Ridge Racer 8: Keep at least Shinji Hosoe, Ayako Saso, Sanodg, & Rio Hamamoto on the soundtrack - and maybe bring Yack (I'm sure he could do something awesome for an RR game, esp. after some of his tunes in SnR) & Manabu Namiki to this series. Add an "arcade mode" to the gameplay, complete with a checkpoint timer. The AI should be rebalanced a bit to tone down "rubberbanding".

Sega
Great move bringing After Burner Climax out. Now they need to bring out HotD 4 and the Rambo gun game for PS3 (Guncon 3 support please). A Virtua Cop Triple Threat Edition would be awesome - esp. featuring a graphically upgraded VC3 (the original doesn't look too bad TBH).

Valve
A firm date on Half-Life 2 Episode 3 would be good news. Hopefully this comes out in an "Orange Box 2" with some version of the first HL and its expansions included (HL Source on 360?).

id
Ramp up the combat in Doom 4 - more monsters at a time please.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

New images for El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron.

http://kotaku.com/5541182/a-clearer-loo ... e-metatron

It looks very original, which is like secret sauce that can make even above average games great. Definitely keeping an eye on this.

Parasite Eve 3rd Birthday, Zone of the Enders 3, a new Silent Hill game, and a 2d Castlevania that's NOT 360 exclusive. Ridge Racer 8 would be nice too.

Wow, my very first thought was "Out of this World" 3D. Wonder how the title (trans. "God Almighty") is incorporated into the game.

Vanquish trailer.

Hey, it's another space marine game! On steroids, that is. No matter how much the premise makes me want to kill kittens, I'm willing to give it a try if there's plenty of jetpack kicks, transforming robots, and grabbing missiles and dunking them into enemies. Mikami surely knows how to make things dramatic. It'd be nice if we could play those sequences, tho. Kind of like the grabbing onto missiles boss in Contra 3. If he just did that in 3D, I think my head would asplode from awesum.

No gameplay? I can tell you that CG "trailer" is 90% smoke and mirrors. Always been like that with that kind of "trailer."

The formula has gotten stale. Everyone has played RE4 a few dozen times and by the time RE5 came out we were at least looking forward to a tweaked formula, not the Exact. Same. Thing. + nicer graphiX

well its deus-ex so the gameplay is going to be a bogstandard FPS (that too like a 1000 other games).
I just liked the mood of it, reminded me of the original shadowrun.

Mirror's Edge 2 would be awesome

Other than that, some original IP would be great to see, especially from Microsoft. The PS3 is so far ahead with exclusive games it's ridiculous. The problem is I can't think of a single studio (Microsoft or otherwise) that has announced to be working on new property, so I think this E3 might come up short in that regard.

Disappoint at Vanquish...

That said, after watching the last few of this one here, there's still a slight possibility that Mikami's boys haven't forgot to incorporate some fun elements.
That is assuming that there's a big enough moveset to use; I can easily see myself passing time with "melee-ing" mechs and armored troopers with swift combos.
Things would get even more interesting if there's some sort of enemy-chaining involved.

Well, enough of wishing, fact is what they showed in the trailer was just a generic TPS.

The Deus Ex trailer surely is more interesting, even if it's just a CG teaser.
I'm with Sven on this one: if the final product retains the mood and direction the CG gave, it could develop into an atmospherically great game.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron looks great - can't wait too see more of it!
