Takumi Corporation & Battle Unit II - X68000

Post by oli_lar »

Hi, quick question. I've been playing Battle Unit II on the X68000. It is made by 'Takumi' and I was wondering - is this same as the Gigawing developer? I notice on the Takumi corp wikipedia page it says it was founded in 1973, however below that it says it was formed after Toaplan's break up. Where they just a doujin circle previously to 1994? Battle Unit 1 (x68k) feels very amateurish, the second one isn't too much better imo.

This is the Takumi logo they use in Battle Unit II - very similar style wise, though the Japanese writing looks different. I can't read it though so don't know if/what the difference is.

Are Takumi making mobile phone related graphics stuff today as part of another company? Seems so from googling.

Before their site went dead, they were developing Wii/DS titles for Hudson Soft.

What DID happen to them anyways?

Company is called still called takumi corp, so I assume they have either diversified and/or merged.

Takumi is just a normal word, which means 'skill' etc. I imagine lots of companies are called Takumi. The character that makes up the logo is the word Takumi itself (or part of it:Taku) so I'm guessing that the company that made the X68000 game wasn't very big, and has nothing to do with the other companies you've mentioned.

Thanks for the insight. If it is coincidence its still a little strange that the above Takumi logo shares the same colour scheme and very similar English font as the actual Gigawing Takumi Corporation logo.
