Gundemonium Collection coming to PSN

Post by Fudoh »

http://www.gaming-age.com/news/2010/4/28-49
Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE) and indie videogame developer Rockin' Android announced today a collaborative effort, in which the two companies will localize, produce and release doujin, or Japanese-style indie video games, for the PlayStation Network. The three titles scheduled for simultaneous release in May 2010 are Gundemonium Recollection, GundeadliGne, Hitogata Happa.

"Bringing the Rockin' Android Gundemonium collection to the PlayStation Network further strengthens our position as a leading publisher for independent titles on the PSN" said Jason Herzceg, Director of Business Development at SOE. "Being the first publisher to bring doujin games to the PlayStation Network demonstrates our desire to deliver new genres filled with creative games to a global audience."

Rockin' Android is a highly respected independent publisher of doujin games that now has the ability to expose its games to the large PlayStation Network audience.

"Our collaboration with game development powerhouse Sony Online Entertainment creates an incredibly unprecedented opportunity to expose many of Japans top indie video games to the worldwide online gaming community," said Rockin Android President Enrique Galvez. "This is truly an exciting time for both companies, the Japanese indie game industry and gaming consumers."

The Gundemonium Collection consists of three titles: Gundemonium Recollection, GundeadliGne, and Hitogata Happa. Each game delivers action packed 2-D anime-style game play, and brings the intense indie 'bullet hell' genre to the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system. Each of the titles offers multiple levels of frenetic action and highimpact weaponry. All of the titles will offer PlayStation Network Trophies and remote play capability.
Hope I didn't miss an existing thread about this....

Nice. Maybe now Hitogata Happa will get the love it deserves.

I have to admit, with a name like Gundemonium I was expecting mechs. I'm glad to see PSN is getting more indie stuff.

I've only played Hitogata Happa out of those, but it's seriously good.

Any word if this is coming to the U.S.? Definite purchase if it is.

You can already purchase these games for PC by the same distributor (Rockin' Android) and I think it's for 20 bucks or so in its boxed version.

The press release mentions that they will be "localizing" the games so they're definitely getting a release outside of Japan. I just hope they don't overdo it as the Japanese style is half the fun for me.

Scratch this (I mean, what I put before). The game was re-scheduled for May 18:

I thought this was already released, must've missed it with Suguri.

Oh man, this is GREAT news. Holy crap, I can't believe it. I'm really excited. If my 360 died, I wouldn't mind so much now that the PS3 has these wonderful games. I'm surprised they didn't go the way of the 360 though.

I have all of PlatineDispositif's games.. well, minus 2, which aren't shmups. Hitogata Happa is definitely my favourite though. I hope they go ahead and also release Space Dynagon, Bunny Must Die and Maid Samba for the PS3. I see they named it "Hitogata Hapa".. but I suppose it beats translating it to Explosive Puppet.

That's just a (rather consistent) site typo.
Should be fixed when the new layout launches soon.
It's still Hitogata Happa, don't worry.
I wouldn't let a mix-up like that happen.
You can see the name in those pictures, too.

So are the screenshots of the actual PS3 version? Because they're just upscaled versions of the original, which are fairly blurry. I know Space Dynagon, one of PlatineDispositif's other games, supports higher resolution. Is there any plans to port over their other games as well?

I can't really say anything about our plans.
As standard, I'm under NDA, so... I'm sorry.
I can't talk about EVERYthing, much as I would if I could.
While I can't say everything, I guess this much is okay to say...

Anyway, yes, that's the PS3 version.
They do NOT have to be played widescreen though.
That can make it look a little better, at least I think so.
Still, it looks better in motion than it does in those pictures...

The PC version resolutions are still the same and everything.
The PS3 versions have the benefit of PSN features, though.
I've gone out of my way to make sure these are good ports.
I think the results are, well, pretty good, but...
You guys can be the judge when the time comes, I guess.
I can't say everything, or even that much, here, after all.

Oh, uh... No English PC version shots have been released.
At least as far as I know. There should be some fairly soon.

Edit: Can I say that yet? I better be more vague... x.x

What features does it benefit from PSN, apart from being downloadable? It's a shame that they're merely upscaled since they're non-widescreen games stretched to widescreen. I don't know why the article in the original post keeps claiming that Rockin' Android developed these games... it's wrong, PlatineDispositif did.

Are these also going to be available on the JP PSN store?

I don't feel comfortable saying something that hasn't been officially announced yet.
Too worried about violating NDA. Anyway, just know that I do mean more than that.
Don't expect online GundeadliGne 2P or anything though, that's not there.
Elixir wrote:It's a shame that they're merely upscaled since they're non-widescreen games stretched to widescreen.
I agree, but you won't have to play in widescreen fortunately, and the upscaling looks fine.
Play in 480p and you won't have to worry about upscaling, of course, although that doesn't apply to Happa.
(Edit: These are separate statements, but I admit that's not exactly clear. Oops.)
Elixir wrote:I don't know why the article in the original post keeps claiming that Rockin' Android developed these games... it's wrong, PlatineDispositif did.
Don't ask me. The original press release makes it pretty clear we're not the developers.
While we may refer to these as "our games" sometimes, we don't really feel that way about it.
We've got a lot of respect for the original developers and the games.
I couldn't live with myself if I started saying I made the games or something.
(Edit: Actually, it doesn't quite seem to claim that. It calls us a developer but then goes on to mention only localizing and publishing in all other contexts.)
Elixir wrote:Are these also going to be available on the JP PSN store?
I don't have any official word on this right now.

Yeah, I know this wasn't very helpful. I'm sorry.
I can't break my NDA so I can't go into many details until they're announced.
I wish I could say more. If I get permission to go into the details, you will have them.

Don't mind it on PSN, but having all of my shmups on just one console would be nice.

I'm going to see if I can get approval to tell you guys some actual details.
As it stands right now I'm just going to have to say "wait and see."

Thanks for the replies - I love PlatineDispositif, imported all of their games a few years ago. I think Hitogata is a very well made game, and it's great to see them being released for consoles.

Also seconding manaka's request, it would be nice to see these released on the Xbox Indies or XBLA at some point, seeing as how a lot of other shmups have gone the way of the 360 in recent times. Either way, keep it up, best of luck in getting there, and I hope to see other Dispositif games ported too (please space dynagon pleeeeeease).

I got the okay to give out some details.

The "PSN features" I mentioned: All three games have online scoreboards for every difficulty.
Being able to compare your scores and go for the top is a must for any shmup in a case like this, right?
GundeadliGne has a Rapid button like Recollection, but the actual rapidfire function hasn't been changed.
That one's in the US PC version too, I think it makes the game seem a little more on par with the newer ones.
Overall, we've tried to make little improvements when we could WITHOUT changing the gameplay at all.
Trophies, trophies... In Recollection, 12 of the Play Orders are worth trophies.
GundeadliGne has 10 trophies and Hitogata Happa has what I found to be a highly appropriate amount: 13.

This is what I can tell you for now, if you want to know more you'll need to wait a biiiiit longer I'm afraid!
At the least, I wanted to get you guys a couple of the juicy details you'd love to know... I think.

I can answer this, because: Continues were always in these games...
But if you continue mid-stage in GundeadliGne you can't save a replay.
(I forget, maybe your score isn't saved? In any case it might not go on the online rankings. I forget.)
You only start with two credits, one used just to start the game. It's pretty hard to get more too.
If you play it in two-player, you use up both credits so you can't continue without earning more.
In the other two games, continuing starts you at the same stage with an empty score if I remember.
(No mid-stage continue in the other two, unlike GundeadliGne.)
This is also how it works in GundeadliGne if you continue from the title screen.

I do not recall continues in either GundeadliGne or Re:Gundemonium. I recall losing lives and then bam, over. I do recall that Continue option on the title screen but that's kinda... yeah.

However:

Which is what I was referring to for Recollection and Happa. Technically that's a continue...
But when you're going for anything rather than "just beat the game" it's pretty much useless.
GundeadliGne has that and mid-game continues as I mentioned, so, yeah.
Basically, I think the continue stuff is nothing too bad.
