Goemon DS update: looks great
Goemon DS update: looks great
I just read a preview on IGN for Goemon DS and it sounds like it is shaping up nicely. Peer says it is an old school 2D platformer, no older "hipper" Goemon, just the old school characters the way they should be. Check out the videos, the game has beautiful water color inspired graphics. Might be time to import:

This looks like it is going to be a very entertaining and solid game. Not to mention beautiful!
A friend sent me a Goemon DS video a few weeks ago and we both decided it was a must buy when we saw the clip of the dual screen features-- the main one was pulling down a bungee bridge with the stylus to launch Goemon up to the next area of the level. Ah, I am easily influenced by pretty moving pictures.
Is this planned for a North American release?

I have the JP version, it's awesome. It's just a well done game, period - a nice revisiting of the SNES games, complete with some sidescrolling sections. Add that to the incredibly cool bush-painting like graphics and non-obnoxious use of the touch screen and you've got a winner. It's not too import friendly (you have to follow directions fairly often), however, so think carefully before buying it.
I hope they give it a US release, as it sold pretty badly in Japan (as is everything these days
), and it deserves better.

No walkthrough yet 'tho on Gamefaqs. Bummer it has a lot of Jap text to follow but not a surprise. It's not too import friendly (you have to follow directions fairly often), however, so think carefully before buying it.

Did that Space Manbow rumor turn out to be true?Cthulhu wrote:I have the JP version, it's awesome.
EDIT: word at the GameFAQs forum is that it's just one level.

My FAQs: http://arcanelore.net/
Is DS Goemon as text heavy as Goemon 3 SFC? Goemon 4 SFC has a lot of text and some very tricky parts, but I managed to get through it with trial and error. I can't read Japanese, but I am willing to try and "stick through it" if the game is still playable without knowledge of Japanese.
It's too bad about Space Manbow being only one level. I was hoping that there would be another version that would be easier to get a hold of legally than the MSX version.

I don't understand a word of Jpnese
but I enjoy the first 2 Goemons on the SNES thoroughly. I thought there were only 3 of them on the SNES. There really were 4?
The first two Goemons on the SNES is awesome, especially the second (first appearance of Goemon Impact).
The DS Goemon looks good and sounds good. I'm really glad they kept some of the old tunes. I hope the new music will be as good as the old ones too.

The white clouds floating on the great blue sky
And the boiling red blood shed in fierce gaming
Those who give up halfway through
Their battered bodies will never forget!
Segata Sanshiro, Segata Sanshiro! Sega Saturn... shiro!

that is, if the average US consumer-gamer didn't get a PSP first so that they can watch movies...jp wrote:I don't understand why they can't bring this to the US... its not like the DS's US library is over flowing with games and can't stands no more.
Ah the heck, I realize that I shouldn't post today, sound too negative.

are you the one that started that riot over at the Retrogaming forums?TGK wrote: that is, if the average US consumer-gamer didn't get a PSP first so that they can watch movies...

Back to Goemon though, it makes me a bit sad that NOA hasn't deemed it necessary to bring over many games from the series. Looks like a solid adventure/action game appealing to a wide audience. Maybe it's the marketability... he does look like a blue pineapple.
The "futuristic" Goemon side-scroller for the PS1 is quite good. So is the "space pirates" Goemon game (2D, but not all side-scrolling). The fully 3D Goemon for the PS1 is absolute crap. I've never played the PS2 Goemon game, but most people who have seem to dislike it - I have seen a couple of glowing reviews for it, but those are the exception, not the rule.undamned wrote:Not to derail, but hows the PS side-scroller?

The space pirates PS1 game is close to the way the SNES games feel, and thus is also pretty close to how the DS game feels too.
I can't be at Connecticut and Vancouver at the same time, unfortunatelyfpbrush wrote:are you the one that started that riot over at the Retrogaming forums?TGK wrote: that is, if the average US consumer-gamer didn't get a PSP first so that they can watch movies...

Back to Goemon, I would be optimistic and guess that there is just so much text to translate

and to undamned, what are you referring to by PS side-scroller? EDIT: Cthulhu answered it. The Elder does know all.
