PSN possibly hacked beware
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
Re: PSN possibly hacked beware
That is some bad news.
Re: PSN possibly hacked beware
This makes that one PS3 incident of not playing for at all for a day (even with your console disconnected from PSN) smalltime.
The emails sound like typical scams though so only idiots will fall for it.

From the sound of it, you can get hacked just from opening the eMail. So it's not exactly like they're falling for any 'Click here' or 'Enter your info here' usual scam.
It's like a drive-by malware install on a website .. you just visit the site and you're fucked.

Besides, there's no way of knowing if it's spam unless you open it. It could be someone trying to contact you or something.
I do recall opening one of those emails, it was just entitled "Hey" and when I opened it, it was the usual "Contact me for free PSN games" and shit. I didn't post my credit card information yet but I was planning to do so in the future. Dunno if I'm fucked.

The story I read a day ago was there was a givaway site promotion by email and the users had to type something to get their account jacked. With all the twitter idiots retwating iPad givaway promotions, I wouldn't be surprised a ton of people fell for this.Udderdude wrote:From the sound of it, you can get hacked just from opening the eMail. Because who the hell keeps any relevant PSN data on their PC in the first place? There's nothing to jack because nothing is stored there. This scare doesn't make sense unless people operate their PSP shopping from PC instead of downloading directly. The user would have to do something stupid to assist this for the scam to work, because there's little reason to bring up PSN account info at all on a PC.
and if you check your email from a PSsomething...well...um...why?

I'm sure on destructoid this was reported as being a "enter your account information for freebies" type of deal.

I heard you have to enter account info, so the only one to blame is the idiots. There's tons of scams like that around. I've received emails that asked me to enter my Paypal account info.
