TF7 rough story brainstorm

Post by Skyknight »

This was quickened once again by this topic: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... 80&start=0 Anyway...

Four years after the Earth/Galactic Federation alliance seemingly crushed the Orn Emperor, reports were heard of life-forms and weapons fitting the tendency of Orn in several remote star systems. Although the scouts came back with the usual images (and casualties), there was a curious new slant to the discoveries.

Some of these devices were taking a similar look to creatures of legend from the past of both Earth and the Federation. What was more, analysis of the Federation's past scuffles with Orn forces outside of Lone Star began to imply that the Orn forces had actually been radiating out from the furthest of the currently held-systems.

Perhaps where the Orn Emperor had been fought, was not the true origin of Orn. Had Orn and Chaos actually been preparation for the true archons--prophets of the original evil?

Two new successors to the Phoenix, Simurgh and Vouivre, are prepared to strike down the burgeoning Orn (?) forces, and investigate this apparent source. But perhaps the true nature of the source will be more than just another layer past Orn and Chaos.

The true home of the force that forged Orn and Chaos has been identified to be a lifeless, volcanic planet, although literally nothing has been able to see past the crust. But if they did, they'd see the terrible creation within. The ancient resurgence of the malign will that destroyed that planet...

The new form of the being that in its hubris, turned the original home of humanity into a world of death, and still yearns to transmute everything into the cosmos into an extension and slave of itself.

Ahriman, the Hierophant of Gorn.

And even so, time is running out. Already, Orn forces have occupied Daser and parts of the outer Earth solar system. So long as Ahriman is active, the threat of its rule will always burgeon...

Stage layout:

1-4 can be chosen in any order.

St. 1: Uranus
Boss: Seraph White (Breath of the deathless god)
St. 2: Daser
Boss: Void Harbinger, a heavy destroyer (Voice of the deathless god)
St. 3: Frost Bastion, a fortress constructed from comets
Boss: Silent Judge, a mech resembling a cross between a humanoid and a scorpion (Gaze of the deathless god)
St. 4: Khairel, a volcanically active planet that still bears some alien plant life--plant life under the control of Ahriman, of course...
Boss: Andrealphus, the strongest of the designed plant monsters (Will of the deathless god)

St. 5: Reshaper fleet, a squadron of mid-level destroyers out to level the Federation capitol world
Boss: Porphyrion, the command vessel. Parts of it are attacked throughout the level; the main boss fight is against the communications module directing the rest of the fleet. Think the 4-2 version of Blast Wind's Ostragle for module-to-full-Porphyrion ratio. (Sword of the deathless god)
St. 6: Druj, the network of defense systems protecting the approach to the dead origin world of humanity, Muspelheim. The stage ultimately extends to the outer atmosphere of Muspelheim (if it still had an atmosphere, anyway).
Boss: Gomorrah, a VASTLY souped-up version of Blast Wind's Sodom. (Shield of the deathless god)
St. 7: Muspelheim Crust. Looks like a lifeless version of Khairel at first, but as the Simurgh and Vouivre go deeper, a familiar mechanical landscape extends inward...Rather like the Dimension Cave, actually.
Boss: Laevateinn, a heavy mobile fortress, although it doesn't actually start moving until the first of its four phases has been defeated. (Right hand of the deathless god)
St. 8: Muspelheim Interior. In the stark metal that is the new High Temple of Gorn, horrors from the most ancient nightmares of both Earth and Federation humans are evoked. Beyond the two great sentinels...rules Ahriman, from whose legacy the progenitors of humanity fled. Earth under the aegis of Forn, the Federation under the aegis of Kyou. But if Ahriman is not at least crippled, that will begin to be undone...
Mid-boss 1: Ruin Prophet, essentially a trap room, somewhat like Guardian Animus from TF5. (Hatred of the deathless god)
Mid-boss 2: Alkyoneos, a humanoid mech. (Left hand of the deathless god)
Boss: Ahriman (The deathless god)

(Granted, this isn't much more than a mould that could use tweaking...)
