Does anyone on here change batteries in PGM based games?
I'd like to swap out my Ketsui and Galuda batteries for fresh ones.

You'd only need to change the Varta battery on a DDP-DOJ BL variant PCB, otherwise the encryption key is lost and you can't play it without that necessary "key".
If you feel comfortable playing with the default settings rather than your customized user settings, then that Varta battery isn't necessary on a "plain vanilla" variant DDP-DOJ PCB. There is the slight sound/BGM bug issue that plagues all plain vanilla DDP-DOJ PCBs as well but Cave decided that it wasn't necessary to fix.
Dave K. has a similar thread under the title listing of "Check your Varta Batteries" regarding the PGM based PCBs like DDP-DOJ, DDP-DOJ BL, Ketsui and ESPgaluda.

I guess its not really an issue to clip the battery.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:You'd only need to change the Varta battery on a DDP-DOJ BL variant PCB, otherwise the encryption key is lost and you can't play it without that necessary "key".

Its working ATM, and I like the settings I have for no demo sound and freeplay.
I'd just like someone to put fresh ones in.

Easy to do man just get a soldering iron and practice on some stuff, a dab of solder each side, simple stuff, its just getting the right battery to begin with really. I'm shit at soldering but managed to replace a PGM battery, MVS one and a couple CPS2 suicide batteries also.

Too bad shipping within Canada is a bitch, I would have gladly helped you out
As kernow said, it's not very difficult. Make sure to buy a 15 watts soldering iron though. Going higher than can be risky on such expensive boards, especially if you don't have any experience. To make a good and durable solder, you have to do it fast (if the tin becomes dull that means you stay too much time on it and it will eventualy end up as a cold joint).

What batteries did you use?kernow wrote:Easy to do man just get a soldering iron and practice on some stuff, a dab of solder each side, simple stuff, its just getting the right battery to begin with really. And did you have to solder terminals on the battery?

Nah you can get them pre-tagged I'm pretty sure, it was a while back.

Theres a thread on here somewhere explaining the exact battery to get though.
3/V80H 3.6V it looks like.

Considering how many of these I have seen leaking like mad, the last thing I would want to do is use the same model battery to replace an old one.

They leak because they're old, not because they're bad.

Do yourself a favor and avoid the varta batteries. I install lithium coin batteries on the PGM boards I have repaired. No leak = awesome.

I saw your PM, and I would replace your batteries for you, but i'm spent on free time.

That looks awesome. Very small footprint as well.robivy64 wrote:Do yourself a favor and avoid the varta batteries. I install lithium coin batteries on the PGM boards I have repaired. No leak = awesome.
