You realize it's not another CS [clone] that you liked more [than Urban Terror]? Eh wth? Then you're disappointed as a result. Yeah, you lost me.
Yes that is what I said! WE HAS WINNAR!!1 From the name I think of a CS semi-clone that I liked, realize it's not that game, then get sad.

Nexuiz needs some Quake 1 visuals for me to love it.

Also wondering why Alien Arena is so slow to load.

Just started playing some QL, impressive stuff. I've only played Q3 on the Dreamcast servers (I know) so the competition is rather fierce...even in my own nub tier. Just need to configure it so I don't get as many framedrops. Figuring out the weapons switching is always a bit of a task as well.

Nexuiz uses the Darkplaces engine which is essentially Quake 1 with a lot more GPU intensive stuff going on which might make Nexuiz the most "next gen" fps in the open source world. However, the weapons and many of the maps are clearly from the UT99 school imo.
hey hows your stats in KF looking? currently im 256 hrs in got most perks to lvl 6 just need to get 36k on my medic to lvl 6 and like a million pts for my firebug lol im playing it and still not bored of it :)

currently romping through Metro 2033 so far it reminds me alot of stalker, doom and fallout but its biggest problem is lack of MP and because im like 3/4 of the way through already its such a short game, so glad I decided to borrow it from a friend who has no time to game atm because id be gutted paying £25 for this :*(

while at it I decided to return to Stalker too since I never got around to finishing it when it first came out, my god the bobbing animation almost made me throw up my dinner thank god I found a fix for that otherwise I would have hit the uninstall button a long time ago, not very far yet since ive only pumped in 10 hours but enjoying it cus im playing it at veteran and its a good challenge.

I got 136 hours so far. Got my lvl6 Sharp Shooter first. Now I'm about 50k to lvl6 medic. Then I'll go for Commando. I lose a lot of time playing on blacklisted servers, especially ones with 20+ players.

My steam name is the same as here if you'd like to add me.

It's a decent game and I've enjoyed the time I spent pardon my annoyance with some weapons used against me (G36, LR300, Negev..).
There's another game out there which I always get Urban Terror mixed up with. I know UT enough to know about the wall-jumping, sliding, and other stuff.
Tactical Ops?
Also, yes. I got turned onto it (never played it online yet though... ) by a member of its devteam, who goes by the name schlauchi. It seems pretty well done although admittedly has a lot of that campy early CS feel at parts. More realistic-looking and grounded in tone than Urban Terror, though the idea was "fun over realism," i.e. bunnyhopping is viable. It was based on UT after all  Sliding and wall hopping just seems excessive to me personally (I realize this is just a matter of preference)

I don't know if it's compatible with the bobbing (but probably if that's just a key fix), but there was a huge overhaul mod to STALKER called "Oblivion Lost" which was an attempt to restore the game to its original vision, add back in guns not seen since early previews, and so on.

Has anybody played this? It would be something for me to try out although I'm not so keen on having STALKER take a giant shit on my system stability again.

Oblivion Lost is a great mod. I had already played the game to death when it came out but found OL compelling enough to play for something like another year solid. Keep in mind though that I'm a huge fan of the film, novel and series as a whole so your mileage may vary.

Following up on that question... (Possible spoilers for people who haven't played STALKER)

Does OL still more or less lock out the gauss rifles and RPGs (or whatever) until the endgame? I would expect not (at least with the RPGs) due to the whole making vehicles drivable again thing.

Do you also still get locked into the final area? That whole sequence was...well, a pain in the ass really. Kind of like that whole simplification of "mono no aware" you see in anime and whatnot. It was fun watching all the ending movies though.

Gauss rifles and RPGs are still going to be towards the end and yes, with OL you can leave the sarcophagus after you beat the game. Honestly vehicles usually end up being more of a hassle than anything. You'll run over the tiniest little piece of debris and flip the damn thing more often than not.

speaking of GOG- everybody should grab that "One Unit: Whole Blood". It's great, it really is. Considering buying the discs is closer to 50+ on their own, $5.99 for the whole thing is nuts. Fans of FPS owe it to yourselves to grab it.

Ok so with all this talk of new Downloadable content free for PC left 4 dead 2 owners I decided id reinstall and give it a go, man so I'm so glad us PC gamers get this free, seriosly anyone who is stupid enough to hand over £7 on this either has too much money or needs their head checking, The new campaign "The passing" is a total joke you could pretty much finish the whole thing in less than 25 minutes if you wanted to, the survivors from l4d1 are indeed there but.......

***********SPOILERS***********
They cannot be controlled and instead of being able to control them or interact with them they basically help fight the infected off in the finale while you scavenge for gas cans, Dead center Atrium anyone??? not going to lie seeing Louis and Zoey again did bring a smile to my face but it was short llived gah! we get a golf club and m60 now that sounds cool right? nah not really since the Golf club feels like any other melee weapon, why couldnt they snazz it up a little? like make it bend after x amount of hits or make it so you could throw it at the enemy or swing at stuff at the floor that inturns flys into the infected like shrapnel. M60? well it feels really good very solid and nice and chunky but it cannot be refilled just like the nade launcher and it can only be used by 1 party member add to that the fact that it is only available in "the passing" and is hard to find sometimes.

Valve are also doing multiple mutators week by week this week I believe is the ability to play VS in realism mode so using the Mic is the only way your going to be able to play this one, all in all I'm fairly dissappointed dont get me wrong in VS mode the passing isnt bad there are plenty of areas you could take advantage as the infected but I was expecting better even though its free I do feel bad for people who have payed up and not got their moneys worth.

The Passing was...passable. Good enough for a free DLC, but I wouldn't pay for it.
I just finished playing City17. Perfect, just perfect. This is even better than official campaigns. Only thing missing is survival maps.

Ok so ive been trying out a 20 player vs server in L4D2 its modded with the infected being VERY powerful I mean a jockey becomes a hell of a force the smoker has massive range and the hunter has a max pounce of 45 plus there are two tanks at a time each with 10,000 or more hp it gets pretty crazy with alot of people getting incapped alot of people simply get left behind lol

its fun but frustrating, the whole team play idea is flawed when you have players who simply dont give a damnand want to rush instead of helping others.

I'm definitely down for games on ET, but I cannot say the same for ETF, not by choice obviously.

Yeah I can see many similarities between UrT and ET. A couple of my friends are really into it. I never played enough to find good servers. And for some reason, every server I join has a millions additional downloads needed. Bunny Hopping Nazis are great though.

Upcoming craptacular sequel 2: sequel harder

XCOM
Turning X-COM into an FPS isn't a bad idea.
Giving it to a team that thinks unlimited vitachambers and adding inertia to aiming are good ideas is.
Bonus: Game contains neither the original aliens (Replaced by blobs and blocks. Easier to model, eh?), nor the X-COM itself (it's fucking FBI now. Hello 2K, X-Com and X-Files are not the same thing if you haven't noticed).
This ain't gonna be pretty.

Vitachambers are a fine idea and you can turn them off. lol shmups again/unlimited continues.

I never played a lot of these legendary PC games like X-Com but that game looks quite... tedious from this video (Matt Chat!). I guess it's cerebral to miss by a mile repeatedly. But then again I like dumb action games.

It probably would've been a better idea to make an X-Com (loosely) "inspired" game. Everyone actually interested in the name will cry about it.

Vengance had a dumb story (but won an award for it) but I played it for the single player anyway. I got in some time after the online for all the games was pretty much diehards-only, anyway, so no big deal to me.

About the X-Com thing; the link to the full article is broke (gee thanks, how about a direct link next time?) but I saw this:
Pelling was part of 2K Australia back when it was still Irrational Australia, and has worked on Freedom Force, Tribes: Vengeance and BioShock 1 as a result. The team also includes veterans of Total War and Fallout.
I always love it when people start pissing and moaning about their bewuvved fwanchizes being stowened...er wait. Anyway, I don't care about some ancient $2 developed franchise, there's still a healthy market for essentially classic-format RTSes in the mold of X-COM - that is one game style that has changed the least over the years. I care about the FPSes. Bring it on, I say!

Haha, I've been waiting forever for them to add Achivements to CS:S. I'll give it a go, but I can't just play that all summer

I finished up some FPSes recently, as well.

First I got ahold of the Chex Quest 3 WAD, which is all three episodes (minus the intro / extro videos on the original CD). The original was really square and rather bland, and the final map never has made sense to me (I've played through it before) as it's a pretty straight shot to the massively underpowered "boss" (something like a Mancubus frozen in place) and most of the level doesn't need to be visited. As a result most people might not even realize there's more to that one (due to the whole thing about not seeing the stats on the final level of a DOOM episode). It got better for the second episode, a little, and the third as well (though the final map of the third level is also aggravating; switches for color-coded doors).

The main thing holding all of the Chex Quest episodes together is Charles Jacobi's artwork; the actual gameplay is kind of lacking - hard to believe since it's DOOM. Who knows, maybe DOOM is boring too, now, but there is some extreme confusion about which Zorch goes where (ammo types) and while all the weapons are there, the game's difficulty mainly lies in there being not nearly enough ammo, and good weapons not showing up until later. Playing on the Ultraviolence analogue (i.e. second hardest next to the one with respawning enemies, which still starts off pretty easy), most of the difficulty came out of the good weapons not being available for very long. As a result I hit the IDFA cheat (and it seemed to change from the first episode to the second, strange) so I could get the shotgun from the start. Most of the enemies are melee zombies only, with no ranged attacks! All the enemies have some green in them (slimy) but the different looks makes it pretty easy to tell one from the other. Great music in a few maps too. Overall: It's free, and has a fun personality, but it's kind of skippable. Maybe if there were some tougher maps with more appropriate ammo / weapon placement I'd come back to it (on the other hand, it plays significantly different from DOOM on Nightmare due to enemies not having instant-hit weapons for the most part, so you can actually tackle this one if you just run away from everything). The museum and the movie theater (Odessa Steps scene!) have a lot of great art in them, in particular.

I also played Soldier of Fortune II again, Gold version, on Consultant (next-to-hardest difficulty). I set up the game for widescreen using the hex edit method from Widescreengamingforum and it made a big difference. The non-stretched stuff wasn't much of a problem. I started to get bored with the whole "switch between USAS-12, M4, OICW, and MM-1" deal about halfway through the game, but I stuck with it this time - I think I must have cheated before because some stuff was new to me. Too many hallways at the end of the game. The art and areas start out strong - I think my favorite parts are actually in the beginning "prequel" mission, set in Prague. There's more good stuff later but eventually it becomes just a bunch of conventional stuff, and the last office is an office building - lame.

But I appreciate the game more now that I realized that M4 grenades are plentiful, the USAS works wonders, and the MM-1 machine projector is also indispensable. Also beat the final boss the right way this time without too much fuss - a lot better fight than SoF1's endboss.

I used tons of saves, though, and also had carrying capacity turned to unlimited. It's definitely a difficult game. I did pretty well most of the time, though.

What dragged me down were mainly invisible barriers (quite a few) and especially grenades (launched and thrown) loving to catch a corner well to the side. The launched grenades (with the exception maybe of the MM-1) won't even arm at the sort of distances, though it does make it more convenient to suicide and try again...

Ok sorry I was on a milk carton earlier, thanks for all the recommendations from the last page or two. Special thanks to Ed and Obiwanshinobi. I was like Iron Storm??? but that's a different Iron Storm, heh.

I had already played HL2 (first one, skipped the episodes), Prey, and TimeShift on 360. Also XIII on PS2. Not a fan of those. HL2 is well-produced but I don't really care about that. Liked Tribes 2, was warned away from 3 so never bothered.

Painkiller sounds sweet though.
