Favorite pinball tables

Post by Damocles »

I swear there used to be a topic like this, but damned if I can find it.

Anyway, what are yours? I know there are quite a few enthusiasts around here.

My current obsession is Safe Cracker. It's just so damn different and random as to present a truly unique experience. I just finished a 2-hour stint at the PHOF in Vegas, and spent most of my time on that table. ...whereas my woman mostly stuck to South Park.

Medieval Madness, sunk loads of quarters into this one, and since the place I used to play it is long gone, I emulate it these days. Monopoly is another decent one, but the balls drain too easily after launches, so a game over can occur quickly.

Corvette
Star Trek the Next Generation
Theatre of Magic
Simpsons Pinball Party
Whirlwind
Medieval Madness

I always thought Dr. Who was cool looking but have only played it once or twice.

I used to have a High Speed II: The Getaway but I sold it to Shmups forum member, caldwert. It's still at my house though.

I suck so much at pinball that it's not even funny. I'd say dr who just because I love the series and Attack from Mars for nostalgic reason (used to one at my old high school)

My knowledge of pinball tables is pretty much zero. But I remember a 007 Goldeneye table where it was stupidly easy to get extra balls and play forever on a single credit.

If I were ever allowed to buy machines again, this would be one of the first I'd get. Playing it emulated is far easier than the real thing, same goes for most machines of course. I'd haven't seen one in years though. I haven't seen any here in Japan yet, though there is a Jackbot not too far away.

I love this one, the overall art+sound package elevates it above the level it should be at. I've got a home use only example in the lounge.

Also like:
Scared Stiff
TOTAN
Twilight Zone
Galaxy
Flash Gordon
Diner
Whirlwind
Sorcerer

The PCE-FX's fav pinball tables:

William's 1989 Police Force -- you never knew if the CPU was going to randomly award you with "Five Free Games" feature at the conclusion of your last ball. And it was sweet to play them free credits of PF pinball.

William's 1990 Demolition Man -- you can double your scores if you use the solid metal trigger grips instead of the traditional flipper buttons. Played this pinball machine back at a local arcade in January of 1991 with an average score of 1.5 billion points on just one credit.

Bally's Dr. Who -- the cool tower that rises up three stories high and trying to shoot down the on-coming Daleks to score jackpots big time.

The cool but super rare pinball prototype of Capcom's Big Bang -- at least two or three Big Bang pinball machines are brought to the classic arcade game & pinball game show, the California Extreme (aka CAX). Only five of the Big Bang pinball tables were ever made according to Capcom.

At the 1999 CAX show, Williams had two prototype Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace pinball machines to try out as they were set on Free Play mode. Plus they were for sale directly from Williams themselves priced at $4,400 USD. I haven't seen nor played a proto SW:E1-TPM pinball since then. Of course at another local arcade hangout in Modesto, CA, there's a production SW:E1-TPM pinball machine out on the arcade floor and is kept in good working condition despite it's age (although the neon-lit lightsaber no longer works).

At the 2009 CAX show, some dude was hogging Stern's "The Sopranos" pinball machine and kept playing despite several guys patiently waiting their turn. I might've waited about fifteen to twenty minutes before he finally left. Played two credits of it to get a feel for it and walked away impressed.

Bleh @ Sopranos. There is one in the basement of Gameworks on the LV strip. Just too generic for me.

I'm currently enjoying Jack Bot at my local laundromat. I love the Pin Bot layout, and the addition of a ball saver makes it much easier to play. The music, however, is awful.

Hmmmmm, owning 5 machines, soon to be 6 I think. I'd say Whirlwind, Diner, Black Knight 2000, Bad Cats, Simpsons Pinball Party, and No Good Gophers.

High Speed?
Maybe that was it...when you unlocked the mutli-ball feature, there was a red light that would circulate just like a police car and you could hear police officers on the radio pursuing you.

Just the other night I played one based on the old Universal movie monsters (Dracula, Frankenstein, etc.) - I forget the exact title, but it was pretty fun, it had a Medieval Madness-esque irreverence to it (i.e. Macabre whacking Frank over the head with a frying pan, Drac getting flattened by a giant disco ball, etc.). Of course my score was still garbage, heh.

I've played so many pinball machines I can't remember which ones I liked or didn't like. All I vividly remember liking was Attack from Mars(or Mars Attacks?) because the animations on the score screen were absolutely hilarious.

i sucked too at pinballs so i wanted revenge without spending more $$ coins... but it's very hard to get the game you want (availability, price, often the seller fucking mind who dont want to send them...)

i have 4 : judge dredd, indiana jones, theatre of magic, congo

and in some time if one good friend's ok with his surplus : stargate, f14tomcat. himself has about ~25 pins :)

wish find some more (starship troopers, flintstones, diamond lady) or perhaps will do the tricks some finally do with visualpinball9 + double Lcd display ...
