Downloading extras for 360 shooters.

Post by DazTM »

I picked up a Japanese 360 the other day, but it's been flashed and banned from live. I know that there's extra DLC on certain games like Parodius and was wondering if it's possible to set up a Japanese account on my Pal machine which hasn't been banned, so I can then download the content (I'm assuming you can access it independatly of having the game on).

Sorry for all the Jap 360 shooting questions, but I'm really excited about being back in the fold so to speak.

No, a banned 360 will never have access to DLC that wasn't downloaded to it prior to it being banned. I think this is fairly well explained in the hardware forum, but basically, 360 DLC is usable for anyone on the console it was originally purchased on, but if you attempt to use it on any other 360, the gamertag that owns the content must be online for the DLC to work.

The only exception is if a later re-release of a game down the line includes the content on-disc, in which case it really isn't DLC anymore...

The only way you can use DLC without actually downloading on that console is to have a Jtag hacked console running a patched dashboard with security checks removed. You can basically run anything on that console then including games from any region.

Sadly your banned JPN console is out of luck, if its dashboard version is 7371 or below you could jtag hack it.

The DLC is kind of a pain to get since you need Japanese only Points anyway. You can't use your credit card to buy them unless you live in Japan. You can get plenty of mileage out of your J360 without DLC. I know I have.

Apart from Futari BL there isn't any worthwile DLC to get anyway . The Platinum deathsmiles has everything on the disc , same with galuda 2. You would miss out on the online replays/scores though.

He could download Black Label to the PAL console and just play Futari on that instead since it's region-free.

That's a good point. I'm a bit peeved about this 360 to be honest. Because I was told it wasn't banned from Live and it obviously is. The biggest problem with it now is that it's going to be impossible to sell anywhere because it's flashed :(

Still I do love the shooty goodness it offers me, I just don't like the idea of missing out on stuff.

Trust me people will buy that, especially because its a JPN console already in the country. No import tax to worry about. Only downside is any content the console creates or modifies such as saves and your profile will be corrupt when used on other 360's.

I transfered my profile back and forth between a JTAG'ed and a genuine japanese 360. No problem with that.

Even if a jtag is banned you can just re flash xbreboot to it so the console doesn't know its banned and has had its ability to sign content that can be used on other consoles removed.

IMO

you could get a good amount of money for a jp 360 even if its banned because someone who doesn't care abut playing online (like me) wouldnt need to sign online. Also you can always update your 360 even if its banned from live so you can play all the new games etc.

and if your 360 is modified you can play any region game on it IMO jtag is easier cause theres no "bad burns", cost of media, time to burn etc.

Well I just need to find somewhere I can sell it now. In other news, it's not a Jasper either, but a Falcon model. It just goes from bad to worse... I wouldn't mind so much, but the score attacks on death smiles are locked, so I'm guessing they're online only :(
