How to differentiate between dead CPS3 board and CPS3 rom?

How to differentiate between dead CPS3 board and CPS3 rom?
Someone gave me a nonworking CPS3 SF3S, but I'm not sure if it's the board that's dead or just the rom. Thinking of getting other CPS3 games if the board is still working.

no real way to tell short of having another cart to put in there... if you are just getting a black screen then chances are the cart is dead. In either case though-- the motherboards are not all that expensive to buy.
