Has anyone heard or can they speculate if the PS3 can output HD images using a component cable rather than the HDMI hookup?
My issue is that I dont have HDMI on my set, only DVI input which I already have taken up by an upconversion DVD player which needs the DVI imput in order to work. I was hoping to use my empty HD capable component imput on my set for the PS3.
I have heard that the PS2 version of Gran Turismo 4 outputs in HD using only component cables so I am remaning optimistic on this one. Any input from fellow HD nuts / gamers would be appreciated!

PS3 HDTV question / speculation

So you do have a HD tv then?
Do many people have such devices allready?
Here in the Netherlands hardly anyone can afford them.
So my speculation is that enthousiast will be playing PS3, X360, Rev. on their pc monitors, which I think is sad.
About the types of connectors. I'd have to say that anything is possible and when Sony will not release them 3rd party cables will probably becoma available and I do imagine that all possible types of video signals will be incorporated in the design!

I don't. Most people in American live in big houses... bigger than the rest of the world anyway, w/ the computer and the TV seperated. Most HDTVs are going to be bigger than the monitors, and all the TVs will support 16:9, while only a few of the monitors will. While Xbox 360 games will apparently be 16:9 and 4:3 compatible, something tells me if they're in HD mode, they're going to be mandatory 16:9 games... not good for monitor people.

It's gaining speed fast in America. You can't watch TV for more than a couple hours at most without a cable or satellite ad talking about HD, and prices have been tumbling.D wrote:So you do have a HD tv then?

In any case, I'm sure there will be HD through component.
I plan on getting a DVI switchbox when XBox 360 comes out; I currently have my DVD player connected to the only DVI port on my TV, but my HD/PVR has a DVI connection as well (It looks good via component, though). Currently DVI sitchers cost too much, but I won't be able to settle for less than DVI/HDMI with the next generation consoles. I expect less-expensive DVI switch options will become available shortly.
