what area of the screen do u move in personally?
Bit of a nooby question here but its something that ive thought about at times. Everybody has there own way of playing shmups the main difference i see is that some players will allways stay at the bottom of the screen where as some will stay at the top. What sort of player are you chaps?
Me personally if im not been lazy i will move up the screen as far as im comftable with and cut back if im facing a bullet pattern. As the closer i am to the top the less space there is to concentrate on which makes dodging easier imo. But im wondering why others play at the same way? is it force of habit? or that many of the shooters u play give u bonuses for staying closer to the enemy? bonuses that not every person playing the same shmup knows about which is why vids show ppl using different play styles. (maybe im looking into it all too deeply lol)

In some games I want to point-blank everything, even if point-blanking is not a scoring-mechanism.
Otherwise I usually stay at lower half of the screen.

I like staying near the top, and I use a V type move across the screen so I can catch medals and stuff. I feel like there's less to dodge, I like point blanking, when I get into trouble I can back up

Depends on what the game requires me to do to play it properly. If I need to do a lot of cutbacks to create gaps in streams then I spend a lot of my time moving up and down along the edges of the screen. If there is a lot of medal collecting then I spend a lot of the game chasing after those bastards, which means lots of horizontal movement towards the bottom. For bosses it's usually the lower middle of the screen because that's where a pattern is most likely dispersed enough to let me slip through.

I tend to stay just below the midpoint of the screen, keeping every direction quickly available, while keeping a comfortable distance from rushing enemies.

In Galaxian I tend to stay at the bottom most of the time. In tempest I go round and round.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
Re: what area of the screen do u move in personally?
Depends on the situation. Normally I stay on the bottom, but some enemies are dangerous if left alive so I pointblank to kill them quickly.

I'm mainly playing Garegga and Esp2 lately. Garegga is also new to me. The combination has gotten me to be alot more flexable, having to move all over in order to do well in each.

Generally towards the middle, though like a lot of people, I too like to go at fire point-blank at the face of enemies. Its sometimes safer than staying far back. (Especially since there's always the risk of enemy spawning from right behind)

I'd like to add that 90% of my deaths have something to do with crashing into bosses.Jockel wrote:thisSasupoika wrote:In some games I want to point-blank everything, even if point-blanking is not a scoring-mechanism.

One with fewest bullets.
No, seriously, lower middle. You have enough time to react, and some space to back off if needed.

I can't imagine any answer other than this making any sense at all.Icarus wrote:Q: What area of the screen do u move in personally?

Well, obviously the biggest factor is the game in question. One thing that I assume everybody avoids though are the absolute edges of the screen (all four). Nothing worse than limiting the directions you can dodge in.

probably true in alot of cases, but there can be different play styles in shooters that dont force the player to play in a perticular style.captpain wrote:I can't imagine any answer other than this making any sense at all.Icarus wrote:Q: What area of the screen do u move in personally?

Centre of the screen because i dont what my subconscious to getting use to the idea of sitting at the bottom of the screen and restrict the option to move back, or diagonally back left or right. Which is why cave's Ketsui for me is the ultimate dodging shump.

Re: what area of the screen do u move in personally?
depends on the game.
in something like daisenpu/tatsujin/etc, i stay 3/4 bottom.
in games with medaling (Raiden, gunbird), i stay center.
i dunno, i personally like moving towards the area with no bullets

A better question might be "what area of the screen do u move in personally, if you've never played that game before and have no idea what to expect?" Since, obviously, different games encourage different playstyles.TrevHead (TVR) wrote:what area of the screen do u move in personally?
If I'm playing for the first time, I'll default around 2/3 down the screen. For boss fights, I usually start a little to the right of center, in case there's a "beam" type weapon down the middle.
