Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
So who's getting it? Comes out on April 20th and looks brilliant if I say so myself. Also supports 4 player online coop which looks a shit load of fun.
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
I pretty much bought a Wii only for this game.
It bombed in Japan, though. I think everyone thought Capcom were going to release it for the PS3 (actually, they were) but then they decided to go for the cheaper platform, since it's easier to develop. And people will buy the console because it's cheaper, right? That didn't really work out at all, considering half of the reason why 2nd G is so popular is based on the fact that it's portable.
I know I wouldn't be bothering with this if it didn't have free online, that's for sure. I hope it does better in the west, but knowing the fanbase, they're so strict that they're already skipping it, sticking with MHFU/2nd G and waiting on MHP3.

Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
I heard it sold 1 million + in Japan??
Granted that's not even near the amount the PSP versions have sold in Japan I'd say its still a success. And yea if this game didn't have free online I wouldn't bother either. This + Lost Planet 2 will be good times.

Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
I think I'll be getting this. Haven't played any previous ones but it looks fun enough. Anyone know if it also has offline split-screen co-op, or only online?

Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
It does have split screen which was a surprise. Though I don't think its splitscreen for the main game, but a arena mode where you and a friend can take on monsters from the game.kengou wrote:I think I'll be getting this. Yes, and it still bombed in Japan. Online isn't free, and the majority of people still play 2nd G instead.John845 wrote:I heard it sold 1 million + in Japan??

Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
Well regardless, I hope it does well here at least. The over saturated shooter market needs some new games such as this.
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
They released it on Wii so they could double dip and port it to PSP, which is where the real money is. Capcom made the most of a perfect situation: they introduced the game to a new audience with room to grow because they knew PSP owners would happily gobble up an inferior port - that's what the PSP Monster Hunters are and that's where the series found its success. No doubt they also got a nice fat cheque out of Nintendo. Putting it on PS3 would have been a terrible option.
But no, the Wii has to be a villain, taking the PS3's rightful inheritance, and an incompetant, squandering it's ill-gotten gains where the sage PSP would have invested more wisely from the beginning, right?
The Wii version did its job perfunctorily well, fulfilled expectations while not exceeding them, and now its time for daddy PSP to take over. That's it.

Why the hell are you comparing Tri to a game which isn't even released in Japan yet?
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
MHP3 reuses a ton of assets from Tri - it's definitely based on it. They cut out a bunch (underwater) and added a bunch (new weapons, town hub) - enough to differentiate MHP3 from Tri to get around whatever deal they did with Nintendo, but they're from the same stock. 'Heavily altered port' is probably a better term.Elixir wrote:Hi. MHP3 is not Tri.Drum wrote:They released it on Wii so they could double dip and port it to PSP, which is where the real money is. I don't know where the fuck you're going with the 'Why the hell are you comparing Tri to a game that isn't even released in Japan yet' exclamation. Who's comparing? What does it not being released yet have to do with anything? Weird-ass comment to make.

Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
Well they announced MHP3 but I have no idea at what stage of development it is in. Though I do think it will be a "port" of Monster Hunter Tri but will cut down on the visuals of course. I'm not a portable gamer so this means nothing to me personally.
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
So what you're saying is that developers make games with previous engines of previous games in their series. Amazing.Drum wrote:MHP3 reuses a ton of assets from Tri - it's definitely based on it. Tri isn't even released in English yet and 3rd isn't even released in Japan, comparing a game you could be playing in a month to a game that you have no information of, in a language you can't speak, on a console that's completely different, is absurd.
Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
You're absurd. It's a different game. But it's not different different - it's port different. They chopped out the bits that wouldn't port well, threw in a couple of new weapons and monsters and slapped a 3 on it. 'No information on' - excuse me? Yes we do.
If you're not convinced by what I'm saying, consider it a bet, and we'll drop it until MHP3 is out. Whoever loses is a tard, and whoever wins is a super tard turbo edition.

You are aware that this thread is for people who are going to buy Tri for Wii, not for throwing a tantrum over MHP3; which you won't even be able to play until it's localized?Drum wrote:You're absurd. Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
I have no intention of getting MHP3 whatsoever. I'm getting the Wii version. I was responding to your tantrum about it bombing on Wii. You've talked about 2ndG as much as the Wii version in this thread, why the hell are you jumping down my throat? Are you broken?

Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
You're mistaken, I'm not throwing any tantrum here. You, on the other hand, decided to shit out this earlier:
They released it on the Wii because, as I have already stated and would have been already noted if you had enough education to comprehend sentences and not just read them, the PS3 was too costly although it was in production for the PS3 for a long time. They switched it to the Wii, because the Wii's the cheapest console on the market, easier and earlier to release on, the majority of Japanese owners are Wii owners, and they thought "hey, if we make this for the Wii, people will have one/buy one for it". It bombed because everyone assumed it was going to be a PS3 title, it lacked portability, and having to pay 1500 yen monthly is too costly, especially when most players have invested their time and effort put into 2nd G/MHFU.
Also, putting it on the PS3 would have been a perfectly fine option, due to the PS3's Ad-Hoc lobbies which are capable of use with MHFU already. You don't play this series, and it shows.
Edit: Hey, nice edit there. Perhaps you'd like to edit your post again and possibly come up with a point? I'll quote what I was originally responding to, removing the ad hominem and white noise. Cheers.

Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
Well, it's too bad it isn't coming out for the PS3, since the free networking might have made this game pretty cool. Still, I'm sure Capcom could figure out how to make a monster hunter for the PS3 if there was enough money in it for them.
I also wonder if anyone if Capcom made some judgment call on the market. Virtually every PS3 game I own has a mature rating. Now before you make a judgment call about me
keep in mind that a vast majority of the games on the PS3 are M rated. Could Capcom have asked if the Wii was a better home for Monster Hunter (I assume a T at best?)

Definitely going to get it. I seriously need to get a hold of the Classic Controller Pro. That thing is just indispensible.

Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
Apparently the Tri team helped co-develop the Pro as well. For some reason I keep think it's just a standard controller with an attachment for handles. I just wish it wasn't glossy, since that stuff will end up with fingerprints/scratches regardless of what you do. It ends up with a fingerprint or two, so you wipe it, then it has scratches. It's a spiral of death.
Anyway, looking forward to Tri, I think I'll main longsword since it's new. I was previously a lance user in the previous game but.. it took quite awhile to get used to and I was never really any good at it. If I end up failing LS I'll try SnS instead.

Re: Monster Hunter Tri - Wii
The classic controller pro is awesome. I imported MH3 and I loooooove the controller. The game itself... well, it was good. Not great, but good. I'm not normally a MH-junkie, so my opinion isn't too valid if you're already a huge fan of the series.
