Blaster Master: Destination Fred

Post by undamned »

For those of you who were disapointed w/ Blaster Master Overdrive, you might be pleasantly surprised to know that there was an unreleased sequel to the original:

Blaster Master: Destination Fred was supposedly only released as a fairly limited run of Nintendo Playchoice 10 arcade cards:

Here are some screen shots:

I'm not quite sure what to make of the coincidence that one of these Playchoice 10 carts surfaced on eBay just as the Wii Virtual Console release was announced. Wonder if this auction would have gotten more money had the VC release not been announced?

Here, Kiharu Yoshida, now president of Sunsoft is quoted saying, "I am happy that we can offer such a satisfying game to fans in the US. Perhaps now this will not seem too hard to complete. Please enjoy it." which leads me to believe that the reason it was never released was because it was deemed too difficult for most players at the time.

Looks like the auction was closed early. Either that means it was legit and someone offered the seller like $100k or it was a fake auction merely to facilitate the hype of a dirty April fools joke ( ). Before it closed, it was up to over $12k, last I checked.
