I have 1 frame of input lag on wolfmameplus99, isn't that the very minimum you can get ?malik11 wrote:I would say 2 frames of input lag is a lot.ncp wrote:Is there even any input lag in dodonpachi to merit using lagless mame for it? IIRC isn't it only like 1 or 2 frames?

Nope. With the lagless MAME you have 1 frame less.PROMETHEUS wrote:I have 1 frame of input lag on wolfmameplus99, isn't that the very minimum you can get ?malik11 wrote:I would say 2 frames of input lag is a lot.ncp wrote:Is there even any input lag in dodonpachi to merit using lagless mame for it? Re: DoDonPachi (New Thread #4)
Ok that's totally awesome! 17ms less lag is a big improvement. The game seems displayed more clearly and smoothly compared to wolfmameplus99, too.
I recommend this version to anyone who is serious about scoring / performance !
I think this should also be written in the first post of the thread to guide people who are not aware of this. Just a line to tell them that's the version they should be using. However, right now there is an easy way to cheat with this version, by pausing and playing frame by frame (shift+P once paused), so replays produced with this MAME shouldn't be considered valid. Let's hope they do something about it and then... really everyone should use this.

Re: DoDonPachi (New Thread #4)
I am pretty sure that both mame 99 and 137 have 2 frames of lag for DDP, my mame versions reduce lag by 1 frame (which means it's now reacting on the next frame, or as fast as possible). Also, it's worth mentioning that the games which had less lag in basic mame (like 2 frames) are the ones in which the improvement is bigger in absolute terms...so the less lag a game has in mame the more lagless mame improves it.Pulsewidth wrote:MAME versions 0.99 and earlier had input lag in DoDonPachi. Later versions have only 1 frame but save states don't work.ncp wrote:Is there even any input lag in dodonpachi to merit using lagless mame for it? IIRC isn't it only like 1 or 2 frames?
As for a version that would disable pause/ save states during recording, I would like to do this. But since I don't really know what to disable or what to look for (and being pretty busy with other projects atm) I would need the wolfmame source, which I cannot find anywhere. If anyone can find a mame source with patches to remove these options, I will gladly compile and release it as an official version for replays.

Re: DoDonPachi (New Thread #4)
BIG UPDATE!
I've removed the scoreboard cap, instead requiring a score of 40mil to enter. I did this because I felt it was unfair that the table was getting more and more difficult to access for new players, especially considering most of the scores up there are from players who haven't played for years. Unfortunately, in a couple of previous updates I've discarded a couple of scores over 40mil; if those players want to post their scores again I'll put them back up.
Regarding inps, I'm going to continue to keep the rule as `my discretion,' since that is what ultimately will be used anyway. I don't want to have to refuse to post scores of people who have been established as trustworthy players just because they didn't happen to record that run; on the other hand, if I make exceptions it defeats the purpose of having a rule. Obviously it's nicer if people record and post replays, so as a guideline I would request that anyone who is scoring over 100mil, or thinks they will be soon, please start recording replays! Also, using either WolfMAME 0.99 or lagless mamep99 for these recordings would make life more convenient.
@orange: please post your future scores in text format as in the first post; this just makes my life that little bit easier.
@Subterranean Sun: please do upload an inp with your next score.
Great scores everyone, especially LtC and .ASP!

As for the inp thing well you know what I think. Even for me, if I were to make a new high score I just couldn't conceive not having a record of it. I think it should be simply necessary. But anyway, the one who keeps the score board makes the rules I guess, and I find them acceptable :p

Finally gave the lagless MAME a try and...
Ho. Ly. Shit. I am sold. I didn't think a frame less input lag would make a difference, but it makes a NOTICABLE difference. Especially when twitching (which, really gives you two frames more accuracy, since there's the frame you hit the button, and the frame you release it, also makes tightly timed stop start laser shots easier.)
And not only that, but you can f10 speedskip the legal bullshit and pause while recording replays, with absolutely no effect to the replay itself. Super awesome! Bad legal bullshit! =D

Some nice dodges and generally good bombing. Should seek to grab that bee in 1-2 and the missing bees in 1-4 for maximum sexiness ! Will keep an eye on your improvements. 1-6 chaining ? ;]

Congrats for great score .ASP! Although you're really making me regret missing the 400k bee in 2-1 on my run now :D
I really need to get back to DDP now next week. I don't know if I can keep up with you but I will try!

I mostly used BR1's basic chaining paths and adapted it to what C-L can do but in the end it's not that different from A-L or C-S. I don't really know how should I chain stage 2 to get that bee, it sure doesn't work with my current chaining (I've never been able to grab that bee when I'm chaining. 1-4 I could maybe get the bees but I always fear they will disturb my chaining so I leave them be. I know how to chain fairly well from the vehicles that shoot missiles to the first big airplane but that's it (Although it seems my chaining attempts always fail on 1-6 when I'm successful with the previous stages.), I have no idea how would I even chain the sections before or after that.PROMETHEUS wrote:Hey I had missed this replay up until now. Re: DoDonPachi (New Thread #4)
Interesting!!! That's very interesting news for the players who want to play other ships than C-S or A-L, being able to conveniently adapt other ship types videos to their own !LtC wrote:I mostly used BR1's basic chaining paths and adapted it to what C-L can do but in the end it's not that different from A-L or C-S.
We got C-S, A-S first loop, A-L and B-L high level replays (C-S in a superplay DVD I heard, if someone owns that they should really upload the video somewhere), seems people can find out how to score well with C-L, all that's left is figuring out B-S and people can freely choose their ship without worrying about progression !
That's awesome.
I'm pretty sure the way I do it should work with C-L, check my 505M replay, or this youtube version of my 488M run, would love to see that done with C-L ! (it's not the way K.O. does it which is probably less straightforward to adapt or might just not work for C-L at all)LtC wrote:I don't really know how should I chain stage 2 to get that bee, it sure doesn't work with my current chaining (I've never been able to grab that bee when I'm chaining.
Yeah I think that should be way harder for C-L, especially that later section with the big red planes. In fact who knows, it might even be impossible !LtC wrote:I know how to chain fairly well from the vehicles that shoot missiles to the first big airplane but that's it (Although it seems my chaining attempts always fail on 1-6 when I'm successful with the previous stages.), I have no idea how would I even chain the sections before or after that.
That last part is worth about 12M if the rest of the level was chained properly, if you get that plus the first part as well it's about 20M more points than you get when you chain only the part you're currently able to chain. So it really is worth it, and they're the most fun chaining tricks in the game to do for me because they're hard and interesting. Tha'ts why stage 6 is my favorite (plus the music is better but I almost never play with sound :p).

Very good bomb usage and I see very good general game knowledge, in particular for "survival paths" for second loop that could evolve into "scoring paths" with more work and risk. You use your laser way too often though !Subterranean Sun wrote:S.S - 109,144,460 - A-L - 2-6 - 465

Solid solid survival. With more work on the 1-6 boss I guess you could pull the no miss no bomb needed to score much better at Dodonpachi. Chaining needs work ! I see you also have a lot of knowledge of the whole game, it's nice to see you guys working with savestates, didn't expect to see such good results pop up like that. Replay here (Japanese version, used with Wolfmame 0.99 lagless). Huge, huge improvement over my previous best, though there were very silly deaths at 1-5, 2-3 and the final one on 2-5. Looks like all that time practicing individual stages/bosses (as well as luck; the end of the 2-3 boss in particular
) paid off!
Hitting 2-6 shouldn't be much of a stretch if I practice the second loop a bit more, but my scoring needs a lot of work, I think - I should really look into 1-4 chaining given I can no-miss/bomb it consistently now. Still, very happy with this... for now.
