eBay for next to nothing.

Re: Finding a PC with AGP slot
I have one that i'm throwing out this weekend. If you are nearby, come pick it up.

And if you can't get Rob's, see if your local thrifts have anything (mine want too much, like $40) and especially Craigslist if you're in the US.

What's so special about a Vaio other than that they're overpriced, overstyled, and probably underventilated for a computer you're probably putting into the Egret?
You should be able to get models that were previously top-of-the-line and if you want to put money into it, get a better heatsink New Old Stock for the now-obsolete processor you're buying.

Re: Finding a PC with AGP slot
Ic. What type of computer do you recommend?
Re: Finding a PC with AGP slot
Anything that has an AGP slot in it. It was fairly common in computers with processors ranging from the Pentium II and AMD K-6 to the Pentium IV, Celeron, and Athlon eras. Generally the way to tell if a computer supports AGP is to open it up and see if there's a brown slot with two sections, and the slot should line up with a slot on the back of the case where the monitor connection will poke through.
If you can find a Vaio cheap I don't see any reason not to pick it up, just so long as it will be properly ventilated where you're putting it. This is going in a MAME cab right?

Not sure about California, but in Alabama people just throw out old computers. It's not uncommon to see them sitting in people's trash piles near the curbs. I suppose that's one benefit to living in a state where recycling is unheard of.

In the golden state of California, E-Waste (aka electronic junk) such as old computers are illegal to dump with the regular trash nowdays. If you buy a new electronic related item in CA, you'll be charged an E-Waste fee which is added on top of the overall price purchase. Best Buy even accepts old electronics for recycling as well free of charge.

My cab will probably be both mame and pcbs... I don't think i'll put the PC inside the egret II..Ed Oscuro wrote:Anything that has an AGP slot in it.
