Random stuff on DS/GBA. I just installed Sins of a Solar Empire but I'm afraid my laptop won't handle it well...so I installed Homeworld as well.

Temple of Elemental Evil, with the Circle of Eight mods to make it not suck.

I think I've started and quit this game more times than any other. Maybe I'll install it again with the Co8 mod.Mortificator wrote:Temple of Elemental Evil, with the Circle of Eight mods to make it not suck.
Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Ok im gonna admit it too, I caved and uninstalled after 2 days I probably pumped in about 15 hours and have to say I really got bored of it...the story was a joke the camera really sucked and the whole game felt so dire and basic its like the devs just couldnt be arsed I actually had more fun pressing the uninstall buttonPainAmplifier wrote:Gave up on Dungeon siege, but have that RPG bug still. So I ended up getting DosBox and am now working my way through Wizardry 6 thru 8 with (hopefully) one party. I've played 8 for years, and played Wiz on the NES/SNES a bit, but never played 6/7 on the PC ever. It's been a bit of a stretch, but things are starting to really shape up well for me now on the first game.
I might have to did out some of my older Dos games and replay them for fun after completing the Wizardry games. I have the D&D goldbox compilation somewhere as well as the Leisure Suit Larry compilation, and I even have one of the Elvira Mistress of the Dark games on disk somewhere! Pretty sure I have Spellcasting 101 and Eric the Unready as well....good times!

If you guys have Dungeon Siege and like DOS RPGs, you might want to check out the remake of Ultima V for it.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
No thanks. Looks far too much like Dungeon Siege/Ultima VIII:Pagan.Mortificator wrote:If you guys have Dungeon Siege and like DOS RPGs, you might want to check out the remake of Ultima V for it.
For the Ultima series, I played Exodus and Pagan. Exodus was ok, but Pagan was a pile of junk. I never finished it ever as I found it so tedious, boring and unplayable.
One of the main reasons I like those old DOS RPG's so much, is because they were turn based. "Action" RPG's tend to dilute most of the "R" in RPG and tend to be less interesting comparatively. Sure games like Diablo/Zelda are fun on their own, but they need to be considered seperate from the turn based games. And is it just me, or has *every* game that ever combined multiple 'player characters' and 'action' (realtime or otherwise) ever been anything other than mediocre to suck? Daikatana, might be the poster child for this, but I found that game far more fun than Ultima VIII:Pagan. I at least managed to complete that game and get some enjoyment out of it, unlike Pagan.

Playing the crap out of Risen, which is pretty much a sequel to Gothic 1+2 in every way.
The 360 port looks like trash but it's a lot of fun if you are persistent. I'm having a lot of fun playing the bandit persona, trying to steal and push people, and beating the crap out of them if I have to. Feels like something is about to kick off and open up for me.

Got a PS3 recently, so pretty much nothing but Demon's Souls and Flower.
Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Replaying Deus Ex. Best game ever made.
Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
so yeah i play tgm and yesterday i became the first person in the US to get grandmaster at death mode, and the fourth westerner to achieve it
i did it in texmaster which is a really nice clone game, but regardless no one else in the US has done it in the actual game or a clone yet so i am pretty excited
here's the replay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjTv2xrUBFw

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
I just finished Bioshock 2 (enjoyed, the city of Rapture was one of the most imaginative settings in a game for decades).
Started playing Ghostbusters yesterday, I think I'm nearly at the end of that one now, it's good as far as movie based games go, some bits are great but others can drag a bit. They nailed the 'feels like Ghostbusters' bit though.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
I've been playing Lunar (sat version) off and on. I'm not really into it since I already played the original version, although it's been long enough that I don't remember that much about it, and more recently Lunar 2. But I got the game for 100 yen so what the heck? I've also been playing Mount and Blade which was on sale on Steam last month for $5. The battles are real time 3D with one player character and a bunch of AI characters (looks like there is a maximum of a few dozen in one area at a time). Arrows fly everywhere but don't do a whole lot, since the AI has bad aim and so do I. Sometimes the battles drag on and everyone runs out of arrows. I usually run back and forth on horseback cutting down enemies with a voulge. If they don't have any horses then sometimes I get off and fight on foot since it is quicker. One place where the AI is broken is during a castle siege where guys without projectiles will get piled up at the top of a ladder and stand there, while I do whatever I want, rather than come down the ladder to attack.

Finally picked up a Genesis again (it's been 15 years). I picked up Ranger X with it and have been playing it non-stop.

which version?ROBOTRON wrote:Q-Bert
I've been playing Q-Bert 3 on SNES, and Q-Bert for Playstation.
The Playstation version is pretty much the perfect update.
Q-Bert 3 is cool, but some of the boards are just hard to look at.

Playing the hell out of Bayonetta at the moment. Seems it doesn't matter which buton you press there's an 80-90% chance something awesome will happen on screen!
(bear in mind that I'm not American so don't use the word 'awesome' lightly!! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rYT0YvQ3hs)

I've also been playing Bayonetta a lot. Got 30 hours clocked already and not slowing down.
I'm currently doing a speed run on normal to unlock one of the accessories before I start working on some platinums and hopefully get some Jeanne action.
Tried Hard mode earlier today and to my shame I couldn't get past the Torture move section of the Prologue chapter. Hopefully spending time getting platinums on Normal will help my skills somewhat.

Pokemon Gold.
Put the GameShark aside this time [despite the fact that I still abuse whatever glitches I know, got all 3 starters the "hard" way, took a good 30-40 minutes]. Having a good time of it.

Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Had exactly the same issue with the torture move section on Hard, Purple Lollipops are your friend! (won't get you a platinum but that section was just not playing fair)sjewkestheloon wrote:I've also been playing Bayonetta a lot. Got 30 hours clocked already and not slowing down.

Interesting. Better than Gothic III, I take it? (Actually, Gothic III is pretty fun at times, just broken and dumb.) I have yet to play through Gothic II and I gets on my nerves.sjewkestheloon wrote:Playing the crap out of Risen, which is pretty much a sequel to Gothic 1+2 in every way.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
The way the game is structured is quite a lot like Gothic 1 so can be a bit annoying at times but also a lot of fun when you get to cut loose and kill some ogres. It's a lot smaller and less ambitious that Gothic 3 but probably gets more things right. I have encountered a few annoying glitches but nothing on the scale of G3.
I'm now on the last chapter and still enjoying the game. I'll definately be playing it through a couple of times with the different quest paths.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
By the end the game gets tedious and the level design feels like PS1 Tomb Raider in cheapness. The ending is also one of the worst I have ever seen. I'm an RPG masochist so I could deal with it, I wouldn't advise anyone to play this game.sjewkestheloon wrote:The way the game is structured is quite a lot like Gothic 1 so can be a bit annoying at times but also a lot of fun when you get to cut loose and kill some ogres.
