Funniest shmup ever!

What do you all think is the hands-down funniest shmup ever made? One of the Parodius games? Gunbird 2? Cho Aniki?

My vote goes to Space Bomber. The banter between the aliens and the president is priceless!

I always thought the first Parodius on SNES was funny. Especially the megaphone weapon.

Battle Mania Daiginjou (and Battle Mania), for me. I don't know other games well enough

The closest I can think of is a borderliner, NAM 1975. The cutscenes are so goddamn cheesy!

"Do I have to go back to the hell again?"

On topic, Gunbird 2 is good for a laugh in some scenes. Rabbit rape is comedy gold, come on.

Game Paradise / Game Tenkgoku

Hands down funniest, both in terms of gameplay, and crazy storyline about a naked otaku (under a trenchcoat) stalking girls at the arcade? I'm sure there is more I'm missing. The VHS anime that comes with the Saturn port (limited edition?) is pretty crazy too.

Thunder Dragon 2 and Eight Forces. The arcade version of Gradius III deserves a mention--respawning at the boss rush after you've beaten it is darkly comic.

Aero Fighters 3 has some pretty damn hilarious dialogue.
Boogie Wings has many moments of greatness.
Mega Blast, purely for the story.
Nitroball, if that counts.

ive still to play any non doujin hori cute em up although ive been meaning to atleast try out a Parodius ever since i 1cced gradius nes. Which Parodius would be a good intro for a hori newb like myself?

Gokujyou Parodius is probably the overall best designed - Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius has a nice, fair learning curve and the widest variety of selectable characters so you'll find one you'll like. Sexy is good, but it can be a real bitch sometimes.
They're all emulated, just dabble until you find the one you like the best and then if you like the series maybe go for the PSP collection.

I'll always have a soft spot for the "Bokan" shooters and their goofy robot animals...sort of unfair, though, as the humor there comes from the license.

Gunbird 2 and Parodius Da! are the funniest shmups I´ve played... by far. Indeed I haven´t even played any other funny ones.

I'm so very disappointed that nobody said Stargate, Major Stryker, Batman, Ikaruga or Axelayer (which is pretty much Bricklayer: Human Head Studios Version). Diner Dash is lulz too, that's got shootin' in it.

Everything by Seta is pretty hilarious. Twin Eagle: Revenge Joe's Brother has the most inspirational comic book art of all time (sob), Twin Eagle II is awesomez, Twin Eagle NES is something crazy, INFINITE WHEELIE POPPING in Thundercade, awesome digitized musics and lyrics in Meta Fox (also in Twin Eagle).

Best shooting game (sort of, it's like Battle Mania games) title so far: S.C.A.T., aka Action in New York
