Is Turbo Force (arcade) any good?
Is Turbo Force (arcade) any good?
Is this game any good?
I sorta kinda like it, actually. It's simplistic, doesn't really offer anything special and has some annoying design decisions (the power-up system and the bomb), but it has a bit of charm to it. Must be the flying cars.
Also, seems like this thread is more suited to Shmups Chat, so moved it.

No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

but it says "TURBO FORCE!!!" in the attract screen and has flying cars.... FLYING CARS!!! the awsomeness is to much for me.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Turbo Force was also known as Hyper Force in USA arcades...
Back in 1992, I went down to my local arcade called "Regency Game Palace" in Modesto, CA...they had a three-player upright cabinet version running this Video System Co. Ltd. produced "Turbo Force" arcade shmup title. Of course, this particular arcade took tokens rather than quarters (which was a good thing because if one were to play the "right" arcade games, one could make a mere five bucks last for about two to three hours easily -- not a bad way to stretch that aging fiver bill into a relaxing two or three hours of arcade gaming).
On some good days, I would put in a fiver and the token machine would give me about 60 to 70 tokens...I shit you not! (I guess the token machine liked me for some strange reason...could it be my joystick-caressing hands or what?) ^_~
What was cool about this "Turbo Force" arcade game was that it allowed the player to start off with auto-fire from the get-go -- most arcade shmup titles back during that time were of the power-up variety where one had to actually pick up an "auto-fire" power-up (get hit by a stray bullet and lose that precious auto-fire capablity instantly). Getting hit by a stray bullet on Turbo Force would lower the overall maximum auto-fire spread but still have auto-fire feature still intact -- this was a new & novel feature, especially for an arcade shmup-based title such as Turbo Force.
I've personally played the two different Turbo Force cabinets that feature two-player co-op + the rarer three-player co-op cabinet setup. ^_~
To have three seperate strangers all join in on a three-player session of Turbo Force was a cool sight to behold back in 1992...I've personally haven't seen another arcade shmup title that supports three-player co-op styled gameplay other than the Turbo Force/Hyper Force arcade shmup titles. Talk about new and innovative ideas/concepts at the local American arcade joints back in the early 1990's (especially when it came to the shmup genre). ^_~
The Turbo Force arcade game also appeared under the name of "Hyper Force" in the USA arcades as well -- same gameplay and graphics but with different game title due to copyrighted name infringement in the USA -- and thus, the revised name change to "Hyper Force"..... ^_~

I just secured a trade that means a Turbo Force PCB is heading it's way to me, hopefully to be delivered by a flying post van.

Yep, Turbo Force is great little shmup oddity...has the same usual trademarked Video System Co. Ltd. designed sprites that would later be later become the revered Psikyo developer. Flying cars with massive rocket boosters strapped on...the perfect recipe for a crazy "anything goes" arcade shmup title. Eventually, if you get far enough, a duel to the death with Mr. Death himself awaits.

Turbo Force makes Psikyo games feel almost too advanced. Perfect simplicity.

I know Giga Wing 2 on DC supports up to 4 players. Does the Naomi version support that many?Dave_K. wrote:Best 3 player shooter evar!...or is that only 3 player shooter evar?

It's a great game and one I have thoroughly rinsed, hence trading it with Spadgy.

Part of the plan sunshine. We need something 'new' in. Dogyuun could do with replacing right? I'll suggest it on the Casino thread later.mr_m0nks wrote:spadgy wrote:I just secured a trade that means a Turbo Force PCB is heading it's way to me, hopefully to be delivered by a flying post van.

I want a Turbo Farce. I don't know what Ghegs is talking about with the powerup system - yes, it can shaft you, but you just try hard and win.

Re: Is Turbo Force (arcade) any good?
It can stay in a while if you're keen to hit it up, or I can lend you the PCB (perhaps tonight!) We'll take this conversation to the Casino thread though, as it's a bit OT here! I'm keen to put Turbo Force in where Dogyuun is, but I'm also keen to take TF home for a couple of weeks and leave Dogyuun in.Devil Soundwave wrote:

I was eager to set this up once I had the PCB (and a score!) as I love running high score boards, but if you want it, please do...clp wrote:Does this mean a turbo force scoreboard is in order?

Re: Is Turbo Force (arcade) any good?
Nah don't worry dude, I'll buy Dogyuun eventually. I have at least three shmups queuing for my machines at the mo so nay point borrowing anything else. Cheers though.
Back on topic - as inferred by Spadgy's posts above, I will be making a rare appearance at Casino tonight to bring him his new Turbo Force board, so hopefully you boys will get a chance to play it tonight!
