Just got it through the post today.

1) Playing on a 14" monitor sucks. I did on esp 1 on it, but I keep on whacking into tiny bullets :(
2) Extends are crazy low. I can already pretty consistently get both of them, unless I'm distracted by a loud noise or something.
3) Holding down B is only really viable for points for me when finishing off a boss. Every other time I just get annihilated.
4) Pretty disappointed Yagawa mode isn't more Yagawa-esque.
5) 360 mode seems a lot easier than arcade. I'm guessing this is just because everything is sharper?
6) The art direction is pretty vile, just like first time around.
7) Haven't even bothered getting the stage three fixed extend. I guess it balances out the ease of getting score based extends, but it still strikes me as being harsh.
8) Can get 63 million points, which is about 6 times what I ever got playing the PCB. Hoorah!
9) The scoring depth of this game is oceanic, which makes me resent the horrible art style even more. Imagine Pink Sweets art style and music grafted onto esp 2's scoring system!
10) I still don't think it's one of Cave's best, but it is damn fun. It's a sad state of affairs when a five year old game (and a sequel, no less) is a refreshing prospect, but hopefully DS II and Daifukkatsu will both be out by this time next year, and hopefully Cave will have a new IP up and running in arcades for me to pine over :(

Can you get the stage 3 extend in Arrange mode if you go into Over mode? I can't tell if I'm just missing a piece of the mid-boss, or it's Over mode messing me up.

Finished up with the "1CC with all three characters" achievement, and now I'm working on increasing my rank. Is it just a 1:1 rank increase each time you 1CC the game with a character? So five 1CC's to reach 5:5?

Also, one thing DDPDOJBLEX got right was to include counters for the grinding achievements. So annoying to just have to keep playing and hope they pop.

According to vgchartz, this game is not selling as well as futari did. It's about 6000 behind where futari was at this point. This has me slightly worried, even if it is vg chartz data.

Well Futari is a better game so it should sell better.

Hmmmm. Game doesn't seem to be saving my scores when I power off. I have auto saving on, but when I tap blue to check the high scores, it's just defaults. What am I missing here?

*** Ah, figured it out. The first prompt you get upon finishing a run must read DO YOU WANT TO SAVE YOUR SCORE?, to which I reply OF COURSE I WANT TO FUCKING SAVE MY SCORE, WHY WOULDN'T I WANT TO SAVE MY SCORE? SURELY IF YOUR OWNER HAS TOGGLED "AUTOSAVE ON" THEN IT CAN BE SAFELY ASSUMED THAT HE OR SHE WANTS TO SAVE ANY PROGRESS THAT THEY HAVE MADE, AND THAT SINCE THIS IS A SHOOTING GAME, THE ONLY PROGRESS THAT IS MADE BEYOND THE INITIAL CONFIGURATION OF SCREEN AND SOUND OPTIONS IS THAT OF MAKING INCREMENTAL ADVANCES IN SCORE! Do I want to save my replay? Um, no thanks.

 Yeah, I find that a bit weird/annoying too.

At the moment I'm still preferring this to Futari, but I've not given the latter sufficient time to make a proper judgment. Mushi2 has more of a pickup and play vibe, so in that sense is more approachable, but it hasn't yet given me the kind of impotent rage ESP2 consistently inspires (as any well crafted shooter should).

EDIT: The kid beat me to it.

You like your shmups hard as nails RGC, I know your kind! :D

Personally, I think Esp2 has more depth than Futari, but the difficulty will divide players. Unlike Futari BL (which is super easy) Futari original is no walk in the park - but it is still by far the more accessible game over Esp2.
I guess it's a case of how much you enjoy being challenged. I find the tougher they are the more rewarding in the long term.

I can see how high difficulty would negatively impact sales though. This is the hardest Cave game on a console since DOJ.

I don't think it's even worth worrying about it in arrange mode, personally. Especially since you can get multiple score extends off of the stage 3 midboss alone

Kill the first section of the boss' hp bar with kakusei, you'll get 1000 gold, spam kakusei to burn all your gems, and overmode the pattern until you run out of gold, it nets SHIT TONS OF POINTS, even at low levels.

edit: also it's one 1*0 rank for 1ccing on 1P side, 0*1 rank for 1ccing on 2P side. Press back on the menu screen to switch to 2P side. 2P side bullet-cancelling is reversed: shot cancels red, laser cancels blue.

This might be my new favorite shmup! A fantastic art style, tight gameplay, and each mode being desticntly different, I will be playing this for a long time. Really enjoying arrange right now.

Futari BL doesn't seem much easier than ESP2 BL. I can 1CC Futari BL Original, but I can't do the same with Maniac, and don't even want to touch anything harder than that. ESP2 BL is pretty easy, and only gets harder as you try to score harder, and if you want a harder challenge, you can go with X360 mode, but even that can be made quite easier by avoiding zetsu.

To me it's not about difficulty so much as Futari is fun and Galuda II feels like work to me. I guess I just prefer my shmups a bit more straight forward. Then again, the first Galuda never did anything for me either.

It's definitely more complicated, especially with zesshikai mode. It takes a while to properly learn to implement that into your play, and if you don't you won't have a hope in hell of reaching some of the astronomical scores on the boards here. I haven't managed to properly work it past the first two stages yet.

2P side? You just blew my MIND man!

And yeah, after I wrote this I had a game where I cleared it with five lives remaining, so I guess I shouldn't sweat it. I mostly just wanted to get the achivement for picking up 15 1-ups, since I always seem to botch the process.

What I'd like to know about arrange is the end of game bonus: How much do you get? Do you get extra points per life beyond the visible 5?

It'd be useful to know whether or not to suicide every life, suicide all but 5, or hoard as many as possible. Seems like suicide every life would be the best strat since you can get decent points out of it but anyone with more experience want to fill me in?

I never got into the first Mushi game and I have Futari on the way. My only complaint about Galuda 2 is that I don't use the Kakusei Shikai mode often because I'm always trying to rack up my score with the Z mode. Small aside though, as the game is fun as hell.

I'm probably doing something wrong but it's a very satisfying game when you start scoring big on the first two stages. Watch some more videos and give it another shot. It's worth it.

Better yes, much better I'm not sure - they're both pretty ace (Futari 1.5 > Futari BL)

I feel the same way. I like ESP II better than Futari, but Futari is pretty awesome also. Galuda II is just a bit more complex and over the top, so I like that.

Honestly the first Mushi didn't do a whole lot for me either. I love Futari though.

I had Galuda 2 on PCB for a bit but it just never clicked. I'll still get my $75 worth out of the port at some point.

weird graphical glitch.

If I tate, turn smoothing off and increase the zoom to 151, I get this weird line about 1/4 towards the top of the screen. but if I go 150 it's fine.

weird.

Hi everyone!

I'm sorry if this has already been answered but I don't have the time to read all the pages in this thread: Is there any "FAQ"/guide concerning the Scoring System of Espgaluda 2 Black Label available yet? If yes: Where can I access it?

Thanks for your reply

really loving this game

i totally suck at it though!

i've made it to stage 4 once!

i really like the bullet patterns in this game, the setting, the music. only thing i dislike is the stupid stage 4 boss, just doesn't fit in. I know I had a train boss on stage 4 too but this one is just bland and annoying. they should have kept him in his stage 2 form.

i don't this game is as hard as people make it out to be, but definitely challenging. boss battles last a bit too long.

playing Asagi at the moment.

EDIT: is there some glitch that prevents the game from saving your high score? even when i save replays. the high score doesn't change on the in game display.

In game display is based upon highest score since you entered that mode. Wait for the game to go into attract mode for it to cycle through all time high scores. Also, I like the stage 4 boss.

If you use the restart option in the pause menu, it'll count as a continue and it won't save your score.

This is starting to click for me. Just got 217m by the middle of stg 3 in a sloppy trial run in BL. No other Ageha players here? Do I have a chance on the score board here? For now..
