Sega Announced a Gunstar Heroes Treasure box collection for Sega Ages

Seems cool to me

Sega AGES 2500 Series: Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box (Gunstar Heroes, Dynamites Headdy, Alien Soldier)

I really hope they add guardian heroes that would be really cool.

Sega announced that Treasure will take over the development of its Sega AGES title Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box, the game features remake of 3 classes titles, including Gunstar Heroes, Dynamites Headdy and Alien Soldier.

IMO Gunstar Heroes Is a shmup

It has many shmup attributes. Not calling Gunstar heroes a shmup is like denying Cannon Spike as being a shmup.

Does psikyo not make nothing but mahjong and Shmups?

Same with treasure they make quirky games and shmups.

Gunstar is a 2D Scrolling run and gun with a shmup level thrown in.

Gunstar Heroes has ONE... I repeat... ONE... shmup level. And as "neat" as it may be... it does not make Gunstar Heroes a shmup. Nor does it make Rocket Knight Adventure a shmup, or Keio Flying Squadron 2 a shmup, or Assault Suit Leynos 2 a shmup.

I'd like to see one, too!

And I personally don't see what the heck's wrong with the Sega Ages ports-especially with this one, if it turns out to be true, could save people a LOT of money-considering how much Alien Soldier goes for.

Regardless of relative shmup-iness, can anyone confirm this information? It sounds like a neat little trio of games, for those of us who don't own the originals.

Would you mind a remake if treasure did the port themselves?

What if they were not just updated versions but Possibly developed the way Treasure intended.

Saying that they aren't known for good remakes is entirely a matter of opinion. I had the PS2 Sega Ages US release disc and ALL of the games I played were very high-quality. People griping about Golden Axe because "you can't kick the little elves"-really, how much more nitpicky can we get?

RSG has nothing to do with Sega, other than it was on their hardware.

Don't waste your time, I've been trying to reason with him about it for years

He's a good kid, just emotionally attached to the Saturn.

Yeah, but none of these are Saturn games. When a shitass arcade game gets a Dreamcast port, jp is all over it like ugly on a monkey. But when a Genesis game gets ported to a modern system it's BS?

Trouble is - a few people still have trouble admitting that the DC didn't have a really hot shmup lineup to begin with, only a couple of good exclusives, and now spends its days pushing up daisies at the local cemetary, only dusted down for a guest appearance when someone ports a Naomi game to it, because they can't be bothered to port it to something relevant.

I think that about covers it. Yes I do have a DC for the mentioned couple of good exclusives.

If these/this turns out well, hurrah. I already own all the games on it, but they deserved to be played by more people. I'm worried about the quality though, as 90% of the Sega Ages 2500 games have been crap.

From the article Kron linked:

"Galaxy Force II: Appearing in perfect ported form. The project was actually started in order to give the game a perfect port for the first time!"

OMFG! I love that game!

Indeed, Galaxy Force II kicks ass. BTW, you might know this... where exactly is Galaxy Force 1? I'm sure it exists -somewhere-...

This is great news! I can't wait for an RSG port. That would really piss off all those "collectors" selling the game for 200 dollars.

Reminds me of the uproar that happened when Final Fantasy:Tactics got a rerelease.

Seeing Alien Soldier get ported gives me hope for a future Radiant Silvergun port.

And yeah I enjoy it heavily whenever a high-price game gets a re-release. In fact I would kill for a solid Guardian Heroes re-release with hi-res sprites. Shit I don't care despite owning a number of high-priced "rare" games myself..

There was also a mention of a Panzer Dragoon remake. Hopefully Sega Ages doesn't screw that up(I'd kill zombie Jesus if they messed with the art). But hey if they can churn out a hi-res 60 FPS version of the game I would crap myself with the fury.

(And regarding the Sega Classics Collection a solid 8 out of the 10 games were actually playable..with some of them even being really damn good..Space Harrier and Golden Axe were just sad however..funny..but sad...)

Hell, I make almost all of my money by selling overpriced "rare" games on ePay and I am always glad when some high dollar item gets ported to a newer system. Alot of the big money games really are good and it's a cryin' shame that high prices hold some folks back from playing them. People shouldn't have to ransom a pet or work at the Slurp 'n Burp for 150 hours to pay for my Radiant Silvergun auction.

Oh yeah! Regarding Sega Classics/Sega Ages 2500 series. The games I wanted to play, Fantasy Zone, Alien Syndrome and Bonanza Bros all turned out just about perfect. And Space Harrier is a hell of alot better than the arcade original. All in all the Sega Classics disc was more than worth the measly $11 I paid for it.

Yeah, I really don't understand all the complaints about the Sega Ages series; IMO, most have been done very well. Although I was ticked that we didn't get the After Burner II re-make in the US collection.

And as far as the Saturn and the PS2 are concerned, both have excellent exclusives, and both, (if not just the PS1) are worth owning. There's simply no reason to pit one against the other.
