From what I can tell, the XRGB 2 only has sound output in the form of line out. I've never really messed with that before. Plugging a (40 ohm) headphone in briefly gives a buzzing noise. What ought I try next?

Sound output from superguns and the XRGB 2?
Alright, I finally decided to get around to getting sound out of my supergun
It's one of Fire-Bug's.

Does your Fire Bug made supergun have any L&R phono jack outputs or is both RGB & sound passed through Scart setup?

The only output is the RGB cable, which of course carries the sound signal(s?). I could have had a S-video encoder added, but it would've been a pretty significant expense for not much use (imo, though video capture that way would've been nice).
Arasoi also suggested I ask whether the sound is amplified.

Re: Sound output from superguns and the XRGB 2?
From the PCB its amplified, but if Fire-Bug did his supergun properly it should be de-amplified inside the supergun using a technique using resistors. The output should be line level such as that coming out of a games console. Its dangerous to put amplified audio into any device that is going to amplify it again (ie TV, receiver).
Just ask someone here for an adapter. It changes the SCART to a JP21.
The max load on the supergun should be 8ohms.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Hmm, Fire-Bug says this:
I'm asking again but that sounds like no resistors. Well, there's still ways to deal with that. The sound is routed direct from the Jamma connector to one of the wires in the scart lead and then soldered to both sound pins in the scart head. Its extracted from the XRGB2 by attaching a stereo jack from the XRGB2 to an amplifier pr a TV.

What about the XRGB2? All that comes from the SG is the monolithic RGB lead; there isn't a separate sound output.neorichieb1971 wrote:The max load on the supergun should be 8ohms.

Re: Sound output from superguns and the XRGB 2?
Just dropping a note: Solved, my test board had demo sounds off
I only now realized I needed to take a look at the test screens. "Very difficult" setting too!
From what I can tell, there should be no problem, in the short or long term, running my headphones (40 ohms) straight off the XRGB-2's line out. Volume is appropriate without any distortion that I could hear. If the headphones were lower impedance (such as earbuds, and I think Grado phones are similar), then it would require more current (amps) to drive, which is where the damage would come in. Still considering an amp, though.
