The use of an Emotia or UVC would allow you to use the 360 with 240p on a 15khz low-res monitor. I'm not sure what you're asking for when you say "via VGA". If you want to get 240p look through a scaler on a 31khz VGA monitor, it'd involve a bit more work.

Hi Fudoh , ive been having a good read of what i beleive is your website "SCANLINES DEMYSTIFIED" and i feel im pretty clued up nowFudoh wrote:The use of an Emotia or UVC would allow you to use the 360 with 240p on a 15khz low-res monitor. What i mean by VGA is , i presume i would have to use a VGA lead from my 360 . so i was thinking this
XBOX 360 via VGA -> EXTRON EMOTIA PLUS -> Output via RGBS Scart Lead -> Viletim's SCART to JAMMA Adapter -> Arcade JAMMA Cab
That would work right ? or is there an easier way , if im using my supergun id just connect the RGBS Scart Lead Directly to the TV
Thanks

That would work, yes. You can connect your 360 directly via Scart as well, but the 360 is limited to 480i output, so you won't get 240p. A cheap Emotia (don't forget the additional costs for the proper cables) would be fine. An UVC like in emphatic's setup would work as well.

Beware of the Super Emotia 2 GX. It was the last unit I had and it could *NOT* do 240p output. It has flicker control, but more in the way of the later Extron VSC units.
For use with a 360 you don't even need a Super Emotia (XGA support), nor a GX unit (YUV output support). The cheapest standard Emotia or E. Plus will do just fine.

You sure there just wasn't something wrong with your particular unit? Looking at the page for it on Extron:Fudoh wrote:Beware of the Super Emotia 2 GX. It was the last unit I had and it could *NOT* do 240p output. It has flicker control, but more in the way of the later Extron VSC units.

It looks like it was a switch clearly labeled "NON" like most of the other Emotias. Just curious, looking at picking one up myself.
Re: What scaler would i need to do 240P for 360 via VGA in Cab
very well possible, but I've had a bunch of VSC units as well already (200, 500, 700D) and they acted just the same. The Emotia 2 was some kind of transition unit released shortly before the VSC100. But of course there might have been something wrong with mine. You sure there just wasn't something wrong with your particular unit? Looking at the page for it on Extron
From years ago I also remember an email exchange with an Extron employee who pointed to a possible firmware upgrade to the Emotia 2 units. So, in theory the cases might still have "non" description on it, while the firmware has been upgraded to two Anti Flicker levels. This seemed to have been requested by a lot customers and explains why the VSC units dropped the NI function for good. Unfortunately the firmwares are done by a IC upgrade and can't be done by the user.
The Emotia 2 manual I had (was a new unit after all) also didn't indicate a real "non-interlaced" function anymore, but the talked about different anti flicker settings as well....
But, really, just my personal experience and why I exclude the Emotia 2 units from my recommendations for videogame usage.

Great. I just bought a Super Emotia II for my XBOX 360 and now I read this. So now I have a useless piece of equipment that won't give me scanlines. =(
Re: What scaler would i need to do 240P for 360 via VGA in Cab
While on (the old) topic: I tried three different SEII units over the past months, one with "non interlaced" actually still printed on the case and two units with just "1, 2, 3" on the casing. The all behaved the same. No more non-interlaced output, just different anti-flicker settings. I'm sure that all SEII units are like this and Extron just forgot to remove the "NI" writing on the very first bunch of SEII machines.
don't take it too serious if you at least got a proper PSU with it. Recently they're quite a few VERY CHEAP PSU-less Super Emotia units on eBay.com (around $20), just grab one of of those and combine it with the SEII PSU...So now I have a useless piece of equipment that won't give me scanlines.
Re: What scaler would i need to do 240P for 360 via VGA in Cab
I am in the same boat and bought a Super Emotia 2 thinking it would work. Then I recently bought a regular Emotia. Supposed to have never been used. Came with the box, cables, PSU, manual. I have tried the 360 and dreamcast going into it via VGA and then going to an XRGB-3 with RGBs cables into an SCART adapter or using a bidirectional RGBs to VGA cable. I get the same results. The screen has interference and it is way too dark. There is also a bluish tint to everything. Is there a setting I should be using on the XRGB-3? I am about to give up my scanline pursuits but thought I would get some suggestions.

For original Emotia (without the "Super"), check this thread:
http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... lit=emotia
Could be worth a try, if the Emotia is otherwise (cosmetically fine).

Re: What scaler would i need to do 240P for 360 via VGA in Cab
I have a super emotia and an emotia - on one screen it appears fine, on another screen (a newer one) it has a similar green tint ... Both screen were sony trinitrons. Both screens showed ps2 signal perfectly. I've no idea why this was. The clue to me here was that the green tint was also kind of blown out/bright.
I simply built a rca in - potentiometer - rca out box for each line and tweaked the strengths down a bit on the rgb and sync lines [I don't think the sync line was needed but I was curious and I think it might have effected the balance].
The real odd thing is that typically you'd associate an emotia with a very slightly reduced contrast/satuaration if anything... And even changing the service mode settings on the effected screen did not change things - without ruining normal/accurate rgb settings...
... is yours also a bit bright as well as blue?
