NEC XM29 = dead?

Tonight my XM29+ started exhibiting a disturbing problem. When using it normally, after a couple minutes the picture sort of "zooms out" (the opposite of when it turns on) and the screen goes black. Its still running, and sound is still coming out of the speakers. It does it for any input, composite video. VGA, RGB. I can turn it back on but it just happens again after a few minutes.

I fear something is dying inside the monitor, though I don't really know what or where to start troubleshooting.

Does anyone have any ideas?

my xm29 xtra kinda does that, but the picture comes back right away....its kinda like when it switches res's...its almost like its degaussing...it makes the same kinda noise

only does it occasionally though

What you're describing sounds like 'blooming'. The people at Arcadecontrols.com and KLOV forums are likely much more knowledgable on this than folks here, though. I'm getting rid of one or two nice PVM-2530s, let me know if you're interested.
