Soukyugurentai in MAME

Post by genjuro »

Does Souky run well in MAME for anyone?

It always crashes MAME for me right when the first level starts. Tried multiple mame versions...same result.

Something in a more recent version broke it. The last version it was working well in was 0.129.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Though the PS1 version has that extra ship.

And some odd control glitch.

Never noticed it. How to I activate this glitch?

Cool. Thanks for the info.

I was actually messing around with SSF last night, using it to run ST-V arcade games. Couldn't get it to run Soukyugurentai either (something about cartridge error on the bios screen). Seemed to run Shienryu like a champ though (that one's still choppy for me in the latest MAME).

Don't you notice your ship would randomly 'skate' a bit when you try moving? :|
Try moving your ship in a 360゜ movement, you'll see it momentarily skate off.

RUN IT IN .128 [.129 is a slow whore regarding STV], or just use the Saturn [if your machine is awesome, but you might as well use MAME then]/PS1 version.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Not for me. Radiant Silvergun runs awesome in MAME [100%, almost no frameskipping, 'cept at some parts, notably in stage 5] for me, but is slow as hell [well, 85%, but that's max, and it frameskips like hell] in SSF.

my pc is pretty good so it might be that making up for the slow emulation on this game but it seems pretty perfect.

I'll try that version next. Does it still have graphical glitches on the shadows and some backgrounds?

Played thru the whole game this morning with 0.128. It was super fast. This game is so amazing, even with the occasional graphical weirdness. Favorite Raizing creation.

I always played the PSX version before, but im preparing stuff on this machine for it to be put into an arcade cabinet, so I'm trying to stick to arcade versions as much as i can.

The problem with Soukyugurentai and other STV titles aren't really the 3D graphics, but the fact that MAME renders them at 4x the usual resolution (704 x 513). This puts a heavy burden on the CPU and causes STV titles only to run smooth on real good systems. It doesn't make a difference if you try playing Soukyugurentai or Radiant which use polygons or Cotton Boomerang which uses 2D sprites.
