Daifukkatsu did away with powerups. I wonder if they'll continue this in future games. It does seem like a relic of the past, especially when a game isn't very much about modifying your ship and/or not a big emphasis on shooting.

^^I agree with this. On the other hand, I'd be a happy man if a new entry in the Darwin series would emerge.

I have the opposite problem in Gradius, sometimes having to weave through powerups to keep my power meter on ?.

I just recently played RF1, and GOD DAMMIT THAT SLAVE ICON IS EXACTLY WHERE I DON'T WANT IT

I'm so glad they made things simpler in RF2.

Im ok with weapon powerups its speed pwr ups i cant stand and in danmaku games i genrally prefer there to be very little or no power ups, as i like the simplicity of working with what i started with, THats why i like Kamui and Nomltest so much. And now with my new PC (cos my old PC wasnt pwrfull enough to p[lay saturn emulators) should beable to play the best shmup that uses the no power ups system R Silvergun :)

I think detrimental powerups are awesome. My favorite is the OH! Because you are curious and pick it up, then go OH! Anyway, this is yet another one of the reasons shmups are better than other genres, because elsewhere you never hesitate to pick up a powerup as soon as you see one.

All those new games journalist morons spooge all over SMB2J because there's poison mushrooms and so on. Man, I can't stand those people. The world of video games is big enough that you don't have to try to all suck the same couple of dude's cocks all the time. When someone says Miyamoto I think RAIZING hell yeah.
