I just watched some Japanese guy play IWBTG for about 10 minutes before I decided that was enough. I can understand people enjoying games that follow trial and error, like playing them in a different language or playing games where there's mass memorization required, like Ikaruga, but this didn't look like fun (note that I've played IWBTG before).
It's just... there's no skill involved whatsoever, you know? Gaming doesn't have to require skill, but there should be some when comparing it to shmups. A valid comparison would be roguelikes to shmups, where there's a lot of similarities. Concerning IWBTG though: There's no actual "playing", it's like trying to mount a hamster on a wheel until it decides to run. IWBTG just feels like you're trying to get from point A.a to point A.b, save, then you're forced to try 50-200 times to get from point A.b to point A.c before saving again. This is not a video game. You're not "playing" it.
These games are a waste of time, honestly. Nobody is going to be recognized for beating Kaizou Mario without dying.
are these sort of games actually fun?

If we're still talking about memorization heavy indie platformers, them I might as well throw in that I thought that Tower of Heaven did this concept pretty well.
The game does get pathetically easy when you know everything about it, which isn't hard since the game takes 10 minutes to beat, but the process of learning the game is still funny and enjoyable. There aren't any truly cheap or unavoidable traps, it's just really unforgiving.
That, and the music is amazing.

IMO im ok with unexpected deaths, the difference between what makes a memoriser good and what makes one bad is game design and how many times a player is subjected to such tricks. Ive still yet to play IWBTG but i can actually see myself possibly enjoying it atleast for a while. My main gripe was those mario hacks thats takes trickery to the Nth degree and then some. These are just a load of whips, nipple clips and butt plugs wired to the mains supply imo (and just incase ur wandering not fun)

PSX Vita: Slightly more popular than Color TV-Game system. Almost as successful as the Wii U.
