air cleaning plants?

Post by Venom »

I recently moved into a new place, and my room smells a reasonable amount (cheap rent though). Anyway, I don't want to just mask it, and those air purifiers seem to be expensive. Are there are any plants you can pick up that remove odours?
Fascination...

Don't know, but you might try spreading baking soda on the carpet and vacuuming a few minutes after that. It should absorb some of the bad odors.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

Weed plants, I don't know if that helps. :D

Anyway, the more/bigger plants you have the less you will smell. Trust me and it will look nice too. You can even hang plants from the ceiling with metal wire so you can walk underneath them.

Insence

Clean it. Steam clean the carpet, wash down the walls, all that stuff. Leave the windows open as much as possible, even better if you can create a draught through the room by opening a window elsewhere. Those BIG plants a bit like a minature palm tree do a good job. They look cool too.

Most good houseplants have a somewhat lower photosynthetic rate or alternate photosynthetic pathway, thus making them tolerant of indoor low light levels. So, you'll have to go with a large number of plants probably. The more leaf surface area, the better. The higher the light requirements, the better (assuming you have enough natural light in the room to support them). If you just want a plant to stink it up with a less stinky smell, go with some indoor-tolerant roses or something.

Depending on where the smell is coming from, a good idea is to grab a mop and bucket (preferably a "sponge mop" for this) and wash down the walls with some water with a tiny bit of disinfectant mixed in. Dry the wall off immediately, wait a few minutes, then do it once more and dry it again. This will really help if the previous tenant was a smoker or had pets. Walls and carpets are usually the two biggest problems for lingering odors.

Also, get some of those carpet deodorizers that are made for getting rid of the smell of animals, and/or some Febreeze, and spray/sprinkle that stuff everywhere, then vacuum it up (if using the powdered kind).

And yeah, open some windows for several days if at all possible. Good luck, hope everything works out for you!
