Harder than STB? Ouch......
Don't just dodge bullets, dance around them.

Up in arms about what? It being like STB?

I was pretty disappointed when I heard.

No new characters to fap to.

It's the fucking apocalypse.

I'm psyched about this. If there's one unique game ZUN has made, it's StB.

Shoot the Bullet was awesome. Everything I've played of his after that was very 'meh'.

this exactly

it's either no new characters to fap to (even though IaMP and SWR had only a few, and Soku just had that catfish), or game is too hard for their easy-modo lifestyle

People also complain that ZUN doesn't reuse characters enough. I'd probably be in that camp if I paid more attention.

you cant really cheese your way to stb but it does play a lot like how a really hard shmup with saving would play, takes more skill than just credit feeding so i guess touhou fans hate it. cool gimmick though! probably the best possible thing the next touhou game could be.

And lo, I must confess to my eternal shame that I have not played Shoot the Bullet. I've heard nothing but praise for it, and the gameplay style looks VERY interesting.

Touhou fan complaints about StB:
only having like 5 music tracks.
lack of certain characters
lack of certain paterns being used in levels
being very very glitchy, CtDs are annoying in any game,
potentialy imposible paterns being thrown at you,
controls being different to all the others, aiming photos and the extra slowdown.
only hard dificulty, it is fairly demoralizing needing a three/four figure number of failed atempts for a level that takes 30 seconds.
Momijitsuki wrote:

tHRtP isn't too generic (it copies from differnt things), StB was a new and intersting idea.
Danbo Daxter wrote:takes more skill than just credit feeding so i guess touhou fans hate it.
Credit feeding doesn't work too well on the last three, as you restart the level, which just makes it like practice mode with three lives. Also made it much harder to get more of them when you do continue, colecting life fragments for doing spellcards is at least some work compared to getting the first point requirement(or two, or three). Also if you're just playing for the ending you get a bad end for continuing anyway.

Personal opinion, ooh StB with slightly better graphics and less bugs. Hopefully it will be playtested enough to confirm everything is actually always possible this time, and more levels for the fighting game characters (so we get things we haven't already part learnt). Should only be two weeks until it's out and we can see what it's like.

tHRtP is Arkanoid with an interesting twist.

StB is Pokémon Snap meets Bullet Hell.

It's not that much like arkanoid, the "physics" is similar and breaking the amulets is similar to the blocks, be it that the orb goes through them. But tHRtP is about not getting crushed by the yin-yang orb, or getting shot. Still far more original than any of the other main touhou games.

Handling the Yin-yang ball was a huge pain in the ass. Almost every death I had in that game was because of it.

Hopefully you will be to choose Momiji this time, and she'll have speeds that aren't just "ridiculously fast" and "completely static."

That would be neat. That's probably the only thing I don't like about StB.

Sweeeet. StB was my favorite Touhou barring UFO and Mystic Square.

Although the thought of this being harder makes me want to cry. Unholy amounts of luck have gotten me though half the levels I've done, and then there are the levels where I just have no clue when I need to shoot to be able to not die 5 seconds later.

Also, we already have more than enough Touhou characters to fap to.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

I love tHRtP, incredibly underrated. It's almost hard to believe that the series got its start there.

I also think it has some of the best music of the series.

I never liked STB, but if this manages to fix the problems i had with it (music, move speed, range), I'll be interested.

I didn't have a problem with the move speed. I just took it as part of the challenge. It added an element to the timing for the shot. My biggest problem was the controls. For some reason they just didn't click with me until maybe 2 hours in.

here are all the bullshit complaints

notice how they're practically in order!

only the SWR characters (and maybe the catfish) will make an appearance

It was a synopsis of shrinemaiden's whining about it.
I think the game crashing/freezing alot is not silly as a problem.
The impossible patterns aren't too common but the semi randomness can ocasionaly throw you a solid wall you can't dodge. (don't mind this; you play through each so many times anyway)

From what can be translated form the blog post old characters can appear as well as new ones, so still hope for a few who were missing last time to show up.

I know, I've read half of it

uh, I'm pretty sure said blog post specifically says "no characters featured in StB"; nearly every character from the Windows games before StB was featured in it...
so still hope for a few who were missing last time to show up.
but this is correct. don't hope for any PC-98 characters, though yuka might make an appearance.

I'd still like to see Ellen show up in one of the newer games. It'll never happen, though. :P

Well I am glad it isn't another phantasmagoria/ (w/e the pc98 one was called). Those just got old fast to me. StB and now Double Spoiler are a nice twist. Though, I wonder why it seems only the characters from swr will be featured. It would only make sense to include the newer 10, 11, 12 characters. Could be Zun was working on this from awhile back on the side and doesn't want to modify it to include the more recent characters.

He got confused with the only fighting game characters from SWR post above :P
It should have most/all the charaters 10-12.3 in it and some older ones as well.
