DS Chrono Trigger. I picked it up on impulse in HMV thinking I'd never get round to playing it and now i'm playing it every day. That takes my grand total of DS games to 3, having owned one since 2008

Heavy Rain.
Really love the concept and execution. Really draws you into it and gets you involved.
Some small glitches (being patched I believe) aside this is all I expected from it only better.
Atmosphere is set quit well, and your choice really DO make a difference in the story your playing.
It's gorgeous too.
I hope this becomes a success and more of this is to come in the future.

Virtua Racing, Virtua Fighter, Afterburner, Zero Tolerance, Outrun, and Hard Drivin'.
Although, I was sucking at all of these ['cept Virtua Fighter and Outrun].

Final Fantasy VI.
Loaned it out to a few friends, both beat it in about a month, never really played it too terribly much myself [and then when you forgot what you were supposed to be doing from not playing in ages...].

Resident Evil 5: Desperate Escape
Waiting to finish all the achievements though, since they seem to be glitched right now.

I'm about an hour into Shadow Complex for the 360. For a downloadable arcade game it's pretty great, especially if you dig the DS Castlevania/Metroid-type stuff, although the 2d/3d perspective it sometimes throws at you can be a little distracting.

LOL, just installed this and played a bit myself. (Basic Dungeon Siege, no Aranna) To check the forum here and see two other people playing it is just kinda funny.Khan wrote:ROBOTRON wrote:No PS3 so I went to my older consoles and played Dungeon Siege on my pc.

Although I have to say, having played this much, I remember now why I never really finished the game before. And why I'm already considering uninstalling it. It's slow, tedious and micro-managingly annoying. I just got the first extra party memeber and I want her gone already. The camera controls are wonky as well, after years of playing games like Lineage 2, Warhammer, etc.
I mean it's playable, yet at the same time it's not terribly compelling. Which might explain why the fanbase for this game seems to be AWOL. (At least compared to Diablo 2)
Oh well, maybe I'll try again later or something....
Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
I'm lucky enough to have a press copy of God of War III to tuck into, but after the sublime silliness of Bayonetta it's feeling a little too serious for my liking. Maybe I'm just not masculine enough! Still, it's certainly a grand, impressive and suitably epic action game.
EDIT: A few hours in, this is really growing on me!

After having it sitting around on the shelf for the better part of 3 1/2 years, I finally got around to beating New Super Mario Bros. this weekend. I had been stuck on one level (the tower in level 5) for quite a while, and once I finally managed to get past that, the rest wasn't too difficult.
I've got some trade-in credit from Gamestop (Yeah, I know, I should probably turn in my Game Snob license,) and I've been thinking of getting Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time. I enjoyed Tools of Destruction for $30, but I'm not so sure A Crack in Time is worth the $60 purchase. Anyone here played this yet?

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
I just bought Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 a day after the latter game's release. I love the job the developers did in capturing pretty much every nuance of the old-school NES vibe. The music in 10 is a real treat, seeing as it involved a who's who of the musicians who worked on the original NES games. In light of having not played any Mega Man titles in a while and getting my ass handed to me in 9, I decided to woodshed on the older games also. I really need to get one of those Logitech controllers for my PS2, if only to be able to play the games in the Mega Man anthologies without having to rely on the Dualshock's shitty D-Pad. The Wii classic controller feels great on the newer ones.
I've also been playing Castlevania: Circle of the Moon on the Gameboy Advance. I honestly don't get why this game is rated any higher than 'average', as it suffers due to bland level designs and redundant, boring gameplay. The bosses are just about the only good thing about the game. I just hate all those tedious journeys in between fights.

After getting the platinum trophy in Demon's Souls, I borrowed Borderlands from a friend. Really loving it, I'm gonna buy a copy for myself.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Continued with Tales of Vesperia which I'm playing with my missus and really enjoying it. It's a bit annoying that there is a great looking world map and pretty much zero exploration allowed outside of the plot. It does make it a tight gameplay experience though, and if you play for an hour or two you are sure to get a couple of forward pushing scenes and usually a boss or dungeon. Probably the best JRPG of the current generation so far, hope it keeps the pace up.
Also picked up Risen for the 360 yesterday and put a few hours in. I wasn't really expecting much but, terrible graphics aside, it plays like a successor to the first 2 Gothic games in a lot of ways. Enemies stay dead and don't respawn and every last one of them can cause you a painfully quick death. Decisions seem to actually have an impact on your game too. It's pretty strict stuff with short supplies of gold and every stat improvement requires ability points (gained through leveling up) and then a chunk of gold to convince the trainer to help you out. I also cheered when I was able to kill a named NPC outright in response to his actions.
Really like the geography too as everything feels unique and handcrafted in opposition to the generic dungeons of Oblivion.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Gave up on Dungeon siege, but have that RPG bug still. So I ended up getting DosBox and am now working my way through Wizardry 6 thru 8 with (hopefully) one party. I've played 8 for years, and played Wiz on the NES/SNES a bit, but never played 6/7 on the PC ever. It's been a bit of a stretch, but things are starting to really shape up well for me now on the first game.
I might have to did out some of my older Dos games and replay them for fun after completing the Wizardry games. I have the D&D goldbox compilation somewhere as well as the Leisure Suit Larry compilation, and I even have one of the Elvira Mistress of the Dark games on disk somewhere! Pretty sure I have Spellcasting 101 and Eric the Unready as well....good times!

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Mass Effect 2. I was terribly skeptical after the broken shitfest that was the first game, but the sequel fixed most of the biggest issues, like the piss easy combat, overly frequent and load times and glitches, horrendous graphical problems, and overall game balance.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
I spent about an hour playing a shit old adventure game called Dave Dude. I did actually enjoy some of it, and it was nice to finally put it behind me, I suppose. That said, it's only literally 10 minutes when you know the puzzles (not counting some weirdness / glitches), and they tried to charge $18 for like three extra screens (with nothing interesting happening in them) that were already in the shareware version, just locked. Horrifying UI / pixelhunting / movement too. Some good humor, but not a lot. A fraction of the content of even the shortest episode of Hugo's House of Horrors.
