Re: PS3 BUG: DON'T TURN ON YR PS3!
Minor update: Apparently the bug 'fixes' itself in 24 hrs.
On start up this evening the date had warped itself once more, but after another D/T reset I was able to start Disgaea 3 again. Sadly, ALL my trophies for that game were lost. The only one that bothered me though was the "Consult your Physician" one. (Play for 10 Hours!) I had gotten that one mostly by 'mistake' one fine weekend and I really don't forsee myself actively seeking that one!
Would the trophies been ok if I hadn't tried starting the game? I don't know, although it would have been nice to know that before trying. My LBP trophy still shows a % done, but I haven't started that game yet since the problem to see if not trying to play a game during the D/T blackout left them untouched.

Re: PS3 BUG: DON'T TURN ON YR PS3!
I guess this year's unofficial 2/29 is over.
Re: PS3 BUG: DON'T TURN ON YR PS3!
The issue seems to have corrected itself. Hopefully Sony addresses the issue before the next time the PS3 thinks it's supposed to be a leap year. If it's not fixed automatically the next time you turn your PS3 on, try this :
1. Disable and re-enable internet connection, test it and set the clock.
2. Connect to PSN
3. If any trophies don't show up, start the game, exit and resync the trophies. For some games, you might have to play for a minute or so and then exit.

For my friends who do not have internet service, should I recommend the battery replacement, or will it fix itself?

If it doesn't fix itself for them, they'll have to replace the battery (or borrow someone's internet connection real quick).CMoon wrote:For my friends who do not have internet service, should I recommend the battery replacement, or will it fix itself?

Did you reset the date/time?ROBOTRON wrote:Mine still doesn't work and its 8:23pm here (Detroit, MI)
I did last night when I first ran across this. Making that change then allowing 24hrs may have been the thing that got it to 'fix' itself. Of course it fixed itself to another wrong time, but at least the lockouts stopped.

Re: PS3 BUG: DON'T TURN ON YR PS3!
Yeah, I got hit with the RTC bug on my USA region 60GB with backwards compatibility yesterday while on my Japanese PS3 user account. Couldn't sign into the JPN PSN site nor the USA region PSN site either. Noticed that the clock & calendar reset itself to December 31st, 1999. Changed it back to yesterday's February 28th, 2010 date. Had to wait 24 hour duration and am now able to log into both JPN & USA PSN sites. I then noticed that the clock + calendar had changed itself again to 12;39AM with a date of 4/30/2029. Set it back to today's correct time & date of 3/01/2010 and all is good again. Didn't know that Sony's intial $600 60GB PS3 model was going to be affected with this minor setback.
Sure hope that Sony releases a patch to fix this minor RTC issue in the nearby future for the next major firmware update for their older phat PS3 consoles...really needs to be fixed pronto. Was reading some of the interesting comments left on Sony's PS3 Blog with some users demanding that SCEA give them a free game d/l or movie d/l for the RTC bug issue. It ain't gonna happen, folks.
-----------------------------
Will this older PS3 console RTC issue repeat itself when the next leap year senario appears next time? There's one way to find out and that is manually fast forward to the next leap year calendar date and see what happens.
-----------------------------
Is the RTC on the original 60GB & 20GB PS3s with "backwards compatible" feature use a CR-2032 coin-type battery or something else entirely?
Another related RTC issue concerning the Dreamcast: I understand if you don't use your DC console for a long period of time (more like several months of non-usage), the rechargeable battery that powers the RTC dies, thus reverts to default time and calendary settings from the factory. A simple powering it up for a few hours unattended resolves this minor DC issue as well.

Re: PS3 BUG: DON'T TURN ON YR PS3!
I didn't turn mine on at all yesterday, so I managed to avoid the issue. When I turned the PS3 on this evening the date was wrong (it had 2/28/10), but it signed into PSN just fine, and a quick Internet time update put the correct time back on.
It amazes me how even after all these years so many electronic devices still have problems with something as simple as keeping time. It's not just the PS3 either; there was the widely publicized Zune issues a couple of years ago, and over the years I've had several otherwise perfectly functional devices rendered useless by an inexplicable inability to keep accurate time.

Re: PS3 BUG: DON'T TURN ON YR PS3!
December 31st, 1999.... seems the PS3 wants to relive the good old days as much as I do.... thus causing a paradox where the ps3 doesn't exist and thereby ceasing to function.... 1.21 Jiggawatts!

Mine didn't work yesterday but it does today.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
Re: PS3 BUG: DON'T TURN ON YR PS3!

I'm curious about all the trophies people lost. Were they recovered?

Oh shoot, I think this whole thing was my fault.Cuilan wrote:Ok, so I decided to turn my 60gb PS3 on, and sure enough the date shows up as 12/31/1999.
A few days ago I popped in a Prince album and listened to that Party Like it's 1999 song. By playing that song after it's expiration date, it caused a space-time paradox that rippled throughout the planet and affected all similar hardware. Luckily it was limited to only this effect, and did not cause the destruction of the entire universe in the process.
Sorry everyone, it won't happen again.

It's because all that real-time weapon change and giant enemy crabs that have attacked its weak point for massive damage.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

I'm just watching the Ponyo blu ray right now, and sure enough, the original language track talks about an anti-crab barrier. Sony needs to get on this!Specineff wrote:It's because all that real-time weapon change and giant enemy crabs that have attacked its weak point for massive damage.

As far as I know, all trophies that weren't synched to the PSN servers prior to this bug being triggered were lost.Ruldra wrote:I'm curious about all the trophies people lost. Were they recovered?

It's because programming is done by a human brain, the current 1300cc skull-capacity configuration of which is 200,000 years old.Vexorg wrote: It amazes me how even after all these years so many electronic devices still have problems with something as simple as keeping time. Only thing that's changed that I know of is a decrease in adrenaline output... and 10,000 years of civilization. But try telling that to feral children.

^that is the most random post.
I'll eat my words. Glad, everybody's getting their systems back, shit fixed it'self. I'm just bitter about a couple rrod.
Good on you.

Re: PS3 BUG: DON'T TURN ON YR PS3!
I'm talking about trophies already synched but you lost them because you tried to play the game when the bug was happening. Like PainAmplifier's case:Cuilan wrote:As far as I know, all trophies that weren't synched to the PSN servers prior to this bug being triggered were lost.
On start up this evening the date had warped itself once more, but after another D/T reset I was able to start Disgaea 3 again. Sadly, ALL my trophies for that game were lost.

Those aren't lost. They may look like they are, but they're not. Booting the game up and playing it for a bit should cause them to show up again.Ruldra wrote:I'm talking about trophies already synched but you lost them because you tried to play the game when the bug was happening.

Re: PS3 BUG: DON'T TURN ON YR PS3!
My PS3 isn't attached to the network atm. It's too far from my PC/Switch to leave it on. I have an extra long cable for the times I need to DL a game patch or play online. (Which I do very rarely on the PS3) But I haven't connected or synched online since the last update to Disgaea3. So even though I played for awhile, all the trophies I earned before the date error are gone and do not appear to be coming back. (Just re-earning some of them the hard way.)Ruldra wrote:I'm talking about trophies already synched but you lost them because you tried to play the game when the bug was happening. Re: PS3 BUG: DON'T TURN ON YR PS3!
I attempted to play a game before I realised there was a problem and its trophy list disappeared from the XMB. Once the problem had resolved itself, I put the disk in again and the trophy list in the XMB now said 0%. They did eventually come back, though I'm not sure exactly how long it took after re-synching for them to show up again.
